We have no set date for launch. I want to make sure all issues are fully resolved before going public. However, we are very, very close.

But please do fix that "Run as Admin" thing for Vista 64 OS's.... ;)

If you disable UAC, all should be well in Vista, even for 64-bit. I have VSD in Vista Ultimate 64-bit w/ SP1 and it loads fine from the Start menu. Disabling UAC is the only change I've made. I'm not saying it's ideal to require UAC disabled, but I've personally disabled it beforehand anyway being as annoying and useless as it was.

Hey, Scott:

Thanks. Full testing is a good thing, and is much appreciated!

Hi, Adam!

I'm sorry, I cannot and will not disable the UAC. You see, I'm probably the only guy in the entire country who's actually read some of the Microsoft "white papers" on Vista security.

And now that I understand their logic and thought processes, I actually AGREE with what they have done.

So the proper thing is for all applications to be coded so that they will run in "Standard User" mode, and in fact, VSD is the only application that I have that (so far) needs to run in Administrator Mode. Even the other CoffeeCup applications I've tried (so far) run fine in Standard.

I'm not going to be too hard-nosed about this...yet. But this really is important. The UAC is a hard nut to crack, as long as one does not disable it. The way it's been put together (as far as I can surmise) really makes sense, even to this impatient (but VERY security-minded) mainframer.

I understand the demands of development timelines...BELIEVE ME, I do! Therefore, "fixed in due course" is fine with me. But if it's not fixed in Version 6, then I would most certainly hope that it's in the plans for a patch release or maybe Version 7.

That "Secret Security Guy" commercial for Apple is funny but a bit of a pain in real life. Maybe in time Microsoft can somehow "lift the burden" from users for all the UAC prompts...maybe for Windows 7, I don't know. One can hope, and eventually we'll see. But in the meantime, the UAC is one of the best security features going for the Windows platform, and that's why I can't justify disabling it just for one application.

Just my two cents! Thanks for listening! :)

I'm sure you're more informed than most. I've just read that disabling UAC basically makes it like XP, as far as lack of security. Funny thing is, I never had a problem with XP. There are, however, countless people online constantly being bombarded with viruses, spyware, etc (somehow) and UAC will be a great thing for them. So, yes, it's not the smartest move to disable one of the few securities built in and it's not really fair to force it to be disabled. We can hope that'll be figured out in the future. I appreciate your 2 cents. ;)

I have had many problems with VSD. The major ones are listed below.

-It crashes all the time and I have to save every minute to make sure I do not lose material when this happens. (Yes I have Vista and I do run it as an administrator.) This problem also has something to do with the object button.
-When I preview the website previewer, the links do not work after you click on two to three of them on your website.

When I wrote an email to Coffee Cup, they did not respond and it was with in my thirty day trial period which I did not know about to begin with.

Coffee Cup is praised for there software on a lot of review sites and that is why I decided to go with them, but I feel like I have been taken advantage of with the lack of support and poor product design.

I did not run off to another site but I asked for help and did not get a response from anyone. It seems all of the admins want to get upset about a customer complaining but they are not willing to help when you need it. The truth is a lot of customers feel like he does but they do not say anything to you.

I need help! I have not received any regarding the issuing above! I would like to say good things about this site but I currently find it difficult.

Please Help.

Nathan,

You sent us an e-mail on Aug 07 2008 10:30 PM (ticket GTD-680590) and Ceser Perez replied to you on Aug 08 2008 08:44 AM The e-mail to us had no technical questions. You simply asked for a refund. This was the only message you have sent us.

We are here to help though. You can call us at 678-495-3480 for phone support or send us an e-mail with the issues and someone from technical support will do their best to resolve the problems.

When the program will not run as a normal user, typically there is always some other reason why. 9 times out of 10 it is some sort of anti-virus or firewall application interfering with the software. Visual Site Designer is fully capable of running as a normal user without admin access under normal situations. If there is some 3rd party interfering with our software, the run as administrator is the fix.

Personally I think UAC is a virus. I hate something asking me each time to confirm if I want to do something ;)

It must have went into my spam folder. I did not receive it. In the email stated the problems I was having such as the crashing as I listed above. Was it a direct question? No. But reasons why I was asking for a refund were. It doesn't matter, I am not here to argue about the email. I only want my product to function correctly.

I wrote what I did to get help. If you need me to call rather than post on the forums then that is fine. I will do so.

Thanks

If you do still need help, yes either call our office requesting phone support or create a support ticket with the issue you are having. Someone will then be assigned to your issue.

Nathan, have you tried going to the coffeecup help page and click on the link "My Question History" to see the response from coffeecup help?
Just go here:

and log in with the email and password from when you signed up and use the question history link and you should be able to find your support ticket.
