Here's the site for my son's landscaping biz. I'm a rookie for sure and built this with VSD about a year ago. It's some of the best money we every spent. It's usually near the top of the search results for the services were offer in the five communities we serve. We probably get at least 50% of our new customers through our web site, and most of our competitors don't have sites.

I welcome your suggestions!

My first attempt. I'm sure there's plenty of room for improvement but much easier than anticipated using VSD. Biggest issue was understanding how to maintain/update embedded Flash objects (don't forget to select the 'Remove Flash' option before updating the object)! Great product - keep up the investment in R&D and future enhancements/releases - I don't want to have to learn HTML!

Heck, if any of you folks out there are interested in a log or timber frame home package, check out the site! :-)

Beautiful site Robert, awesome use of the CC Gallery software. Beautiful work you do on the houses, love looking at them even though I'll never be in one lol. Well done!

Well done, Tim. Some remarks:

on this page: http://www.stbonifaceschool.net/prospec … ation.html the 'prospective student information text' is far bigger than the box it is supposed to fit in...
sometimes you use Times Roman in a clickable button with a font size so small that I can hardly read it. Most of the time you use Verdana or Tahoma though, which improves readability. I advise you to choose one of these two always.
Sometimes text floats out of a box when I increase the size of the font or the site becomes garbled completely when I increase or decrease the size of the complete site. (yes, a visitor can do this). This is a well-known VSD problem (not only of VSD though). You can prevent this by not using text upon graphics but write text inside the button, and for text boxes: make them 'advanced'. You can read something about this here: http://www.coffeecup.com/forums/designe … o-a-shape/

There are some great sites on here. Keep up the good work everyone (and all at Coffecup).

Here is a site I built recently in the UK for a florist client of mine.

Hiya Marc,

Site looks really nice, but you have a loading issue with I "think" the google analytics script if someone has it blocked. I use FireFox browser and I use NoScript which blocks scripts until I allow them manually. I set the site domain to trusted, but not google analytics when I went to your site, and it tried to load it over and over and over really fast so I left the site :P

Looked really nice though, nice job :)

Thanks for the suggestions and tips, especially on text buttons. I was wondering how to do those instead of using text only as a hyperlink.
I guess my tendency to use different fonts is to make the site less boring. I've been using size 2 text for most pages, is that too small?

Thanks Jo Ann,

I thought the slow loading was due to the high image intensity. I will have a look at this.

Do you have a "quick fix" as to how I would resolve the issue?

Thanks for your advice - it is much appreciated.

Marc

I don't have any fixes I can think of off hand, hopefully someone else will have some idea what you can do. I've seen it happen before, but never really paid too much attention to what was causing it.

I can tell you that it's for sure the google map thing you have setup, just not sure how to fix it.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
