VSD basic questions - Page 1 - Post...

I haven't posted here in a while. My site continues to work fine, thanks in part to the help I've received in this forum back in early 2007. But now, I'm going to create a new site, and "relearn" VSD.

I have version 5.5. I migrated it to my new Vista machine, and it seems to work fine (see question 3).

My first question is, what is the difference between my older version (5.5) and the newest one? I can't find a version log on the coffeecup website.

Second, I received my VSD from Lunar Pages. Is there a charge for me to download a newer version? (if so, I will pay, as I like this product)

Third, there is, of course, no "My documents" pathway on Vista, so all of my graphics on my other web site that I created in XP don't show. Is there a way to easily fix this, or do I need to just redo them page by page in Vista?

Thanks!

Upgrade to v5,9. It is a big improvement... There are still issues that need looking at but it works. As to your free upgrade you really need to email sales to clear that one...

I think the biggest change in the 5.9# versions is the overhaul in FTP uploading, where VSD uploads only what has changed. As with most changes, it works great for most, and not so great for some. Version 6.0 is on its way soon. Like Tom said, I would contact CoffeeCup directly about the upgrade option. I know they offered a lower upgrade price for those that purchased the off-the-shelf VSD bundled by Cosmi, but being free from Lunarpages, I'm not so sure.

I hadn't thought of a site originally made by XP being moved over to Vista (when stored in My Documents). As a test, I thought I'd try making my own Documents and Settings folder and it automatically said "the files in New Folder will be moved to C:\Users." Crazy. If you create a new site, I'd recommend having it in its own folder (like C:\website), making it much easier to move elsewhere as far as paths go. Also, keep all files used for the site in that folder (or subfolders). The newer versions of VSD (or maybe 6.0 at least) should be better with portability, which would be helpful in your current case and others.

Thanks for the response, guys.

If the only difference between 5.5 and 5.9X is the FTP program, then I will probably stay put, as I have a great FTP client already.

What about 6.0? Has anyone said what changes are coming?

I read (in another thread) that it would be here in two weeks. I can certainly wait.

Since nobody pointed me to a link to a development page, where the changes in the different versions are detailed, I assume that none exists. Is there a reason for this?

I guess that I'm hoping that a company guy will pop on and straighten me out. :-)

In the help file we list the changes found in each version. When 6.0 is released, the updated changes will be listed in there as well.

Scott, WHERE in the help files?

I looked both in the help file on my program, and the software help files on this website. I couldn't find the information.

I did, however, discover that you were hired in 2003. :-)

Well, I dredged this up from doing a forum search. Scott, you were looking for beta testers for 6.0, and mentioned the following:

* PNG support
* New shapes
* Updated styles
* Redesigned interface
* Color wheel modification to work with Website Color Schemer
* Stylish new templates
* VNU file uploaded and archived for continuous backup
* Numerous bug fixes and enhancements

That sounds good to me! I just wish that I didn't have to work so hard to find such information.

Of course, this doesn't detract from the quality of the coffeecup software. Thanks for your efforts, Scott. I look forward to the new version!

PS - another vote here for anchors. I also asked about this in early 2007.

When 6.0 is released, that information will be with the software.

I must be asking the wrong question. WHERE in the help files does it give anything other than the version number? I can't find a darn thing.

On second thought, forget it. I'll just wait till 6.0 is released. Looking forward to it. VSD has been a great program for me.
