Free FTP and Direct FTP are the exact same program. The only difference is Free FTP has the Editor removed. What you are describing sounds more like a firewall or anti-virus problem to me. Free FTP probably has been permitted access through these programs and Direct FTP is being blocked. That would be my opinion anyway. ;)

OK I will investigate the security software blocking theory and see If I come up with anything. But I believe that if the security software was blocking it I would not get through at all it seems to be getting through intermittently I realize that they are the same the free one and the purchased one was just accurately recounting my experience
Maybe I set up the server connection properly with the free one and possibly made a mistake when setting up the purchased one?

Yes, seems to be security software causing problems. I removed my free spybot search and destroy and disabled the microsoft firewall went online and FTP pretty quickly connected with the server and then pretty quickly opened folders and files on the server I did not make any transfers but from the log on and navigate indications I concluded that the security software or settings of it are the problem Will get different security software because the spybot stuff is too difficult to specifically operate

That is exactly why I refuse to install any Anti-Virus, Firewall or any security program. They cause more problems then they solve. I use Chrome as my browser and Gmail for e-mail and I have never once any a problem. ;)

Yet another example security programs gone bad:

Hi everybody!

Here are some of my findings/suggestions stemming from working with DirectFTP 6.8.
The challenge was to transfer a complete TYPO3 installation from my local drive up to a shared hosting server (about 6800 files or so). In addition to that pretty huge file count I found a noisy line which caused a lot of lost files during transfer. Round about 100 files were missing after my upload completed.
What I'm missing is:
There is no *easy* built-in way to look up broken transfers and then restart them. DirectFTP is a very cool program as long as it can use a good connection. As soon as external impacts are getting worse, DirectFTP falls back. In my case I had to install another FTP client (FZ) which successfully uploaded all files automatically without additional interactions!
I know, it is nontrivial to setup a test environment like my scenario described above, but maybe you find a way to improve your otherwise really cool FTP client to be on par with others in terms of reliability (error-correction/handling/reporting).

Best,
Burkhard

Allow us to delete My S-Drive Account from the servers list and stop shoving it down our throat.

Minus the "shoving it down our throat part" I would definitely concur. If we don't need it we shouldn't have to have it listed there.
