Here is the test, well didn't turn out to be a test, that I preformed using Direct FTP 6.8 and Filezilla 3.5
I just purchased Direct FTP 6.8 as I played around with the trail yesterday and really liked what I saw. However didnt upload any really large (meaning numerous files/folders) with the trail.
Here is what I have done. At approximately 12 noon today (Central time) I started uploading a shopping cart system to one of my sites. I am using the FTPS over TLS (explicit) protocol with Direct FTP and as I type this at 1:56 pm (almost two hours later) there have only been 4060 out of 4538 files transferred (24.6 out of 25.39 MB).
Before you jump to the conclusion of a slow ISP my UPLOAD speed is 2.5 MB/s so plenty of bandwidth (download is close to 35 mb/s)
I went to lunch and came back expecting the process to have been finished but it wasnt, still isnt at time of this writing. So I tried an experiment, thinking well maybe its the server.
I logged on to the server (same domain as the current upload) and created a second FTP account. And while I was there I created a "test" folder to I could upload the same set of files that I am currently uploading using Direct FTP.
Second FTP all set up, test directory all set up and make a secure connection using ftpes with Filezilla. Instant connect and started file upload at 1:26 pm today. At 1:50 pm, 24 minutes later) ALL 4538 files had been uploaded to the same server, same domain using a encrypted ftp connection. And this is on the same internet connection and same computer that has the current Direct FTP running on.
So, what is it about Direct FTP that is making this upload so painfully slow? Is there some setting, or what? While I really like the way Direct FTP is set up, it really cuts into my productive time in getting files up to the server.
Any advise for using Direct FTP, or maybe just use it for the small stuff and leave the heavy lifting to Filezilla?
I am open to ideas.
EDITED TO SAY: Transfer with Direct FTP finally finished at 2:09 pm (over two hours later) and after it finished it gave this message:
"Internal error, failed to convert the data to a format that the server is able to process. May be the file or text contains unexpected characters."

Having you tried uploading to S-Drive and compare the upload times to our network and see if it is identical as to what you are getting when uploading to your server?

I have to agree with this user. I just purchased this program (couldn't beat the special price). However the upload speeds are painfully slow. I was attempting to upload a file that was relatively small (640kb total). After 2 minutes I still had a handful of files left to upload. I cancelled the upload and cued the files up in my "other" ftp program. The entire file uploaded in approx. 24 seconds.
My hosting provider has plenty of bandwidth and my internet connection maintains a 6-7 mbps rate of data flow.
Something is not right with this program........

Did you try S-Drive as well to compare transfer times?

It wouldn't accept php files in the upload. I'll put a folder of images together and give it a try.
I don't think php is allowed in s-drive except for if your using shopkeeper with CC's SCCP.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Does this FTP program have log file functionality? I found an option to "Write Transaction log to a dedicated Editor window" but that didn't provide much info at all.
Yeah, thanks Eric, just trying to upload some files for speed testing.
Click on "Terminal" at the top of Dftp then "Logging".

That logging only applies if you're using the terminal portion of the program. For normal FTP transfers it doesnt appear to be applicable.
