On the surface it appears that this program is optimized for S-Drive configurations.

I would think that FTP is somewhat equal across the board. I've used a handful of FTP apps over the past 6-7 years and all in all the performance was about the same between all of them.

I am at a loss to explain how my current FTP program can load a batch of files in seconds while DirectFTP loads the same batch of files in minutes.

It would be easy to write this off as an issue of inadequate host bandwidth, poor internet connectivity, or inferior hardware configurations. It do not believe any of those to be the issue.

Since this program apparently works well for many I have to conclude that it just isn't a good fit for my configuration. It has some cool features but seems to be problematic for me in the area where it matters most, file transfer.

No problem, the price was right. I'll set it off to the side for another day on another PC in the future.

We do have a logging system included with Direct FTP and it may shed some light into what is going on. This is what you would need to do:

1. Select the Direct FTP desktop icon and hold down the Shift key while double-clicking with your mouse. (Note: The Direct FTP icon must be located on your desktop. If it is not, move it there.)

2. A window will pop up. Make a note of the path that appears in it, and then select Yes.

3. Direct FTP will open. Try and upload/download and use the program as much as you can so we can gather as much information as possible. Put the software really hard to work. Please don't just open and close the application as it will tell us nothing.

4. Go to the path you made a note of, and send us the "DFTP Debug ## log.txt".

I need you then to provide me with this additional information:

1. What operating system and service pack are you using?

2. Are you logged in as an Administrative user or Limited User?

3. Do you have any Anti-Virus or Firewall programs running? If yes, which one?

4. Go to the Start Menu > Run and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without quotes.) This will launch the Windows System Information application. Now go to the File Menu > Save and enter in your last name and click Save.

Now open a support ticket and attach both files (log and msinfo32) and this will allow us to see what is going on.

I was wondering about the slowness just today while I was uploading a wordpress install. Just one directory (wp-admin) took 16 minutes to upload to my Hostgator server. That directory contains 369 files and is 2.79mb in size. I used Filezilla for the wp-includes folder (384 files and 4.66mb in size) and it took 2min 36sec.

DirectFTP is definitely slow as molasses in Antarctica. I've been a long time user of many CoffeeCup software apps, but not impressed with this release of DirectFTP.

Filezilla it is until DirectFTP is fixed.

BTW - Windows Vista Ultimate, firewall, realtime antivirus and malware tools, none of which are causing this. Don't even get me started about whether or not I'm the administrator or "regular" user. It shouldn't matter, if it does there's a problem with the tool. CuteFTP, Filezilla, WinSCP, and command prompt ftp all work fine and far exceed the performance of DirectFTP (in its current version) under the same conditions on my platform, and we're talking about install, run... no tweaks of anything.

I am sure we can figure this out. Can you follow the same instructions I posted here at http://www.coffeecup.com/forums/direct- … post162498 so we can look at what is going on?

Windows Vista and 7 both have issues with a lot of software, not all just CC software and not even all CC software causes it for everyone. But it's well known that the Run as Administrator setting does need to be used for some people. No clue why, but it's definitely a Windows issue not a CC issue. I have had to use it in at least a dozen programs, and only 2 of those are CC programs, the others are various games and voice software and such.

Not getting you started on it, just stating the facts that it happens and it's not a CC issue and most things work out of the box for many, and for some they don't. Not everyone runs the exact same systems, software, drivers, etc. all of which play a part in how things work for us. Running as Administrator is an easy fix and causes no issues, not sure why it's such a big deal for some people as it's a very easy thing to do.

Jeff was kind enough to create an FTP account on his server for us so we could run some tests from here. Here were our test results:

A 39.9 MB File:

• Direct FTP: 2:18 seconds
• Transmit (OSX): 2:22 seconds
• Filezilla: 2:12 seconds
• FlashXP: 2:19 seconds

A 6.2MB File:

• Direct FTP: 10 seconds
• Transmit (OSX): 13 seconds
• Filezilla: 12 seconds
• FlashXP: 14 seconds

We performed these tests on Windows XP and Windows 7 (64-bit) and the times were pretty much identical.

Yeah, to kind of echo what Jo Ann said, software can perform differently on different PC configurations. This particular application just doesn't perform well on my configuration. I cant really blame CC if the software is working well for most folks but just doesn't perform for a few (I don't really know how many are having issues but I assume its just a few).

Scott took the time to do some real world testing and for him file transfers to my current server space using Direct FTP were fast and reliable when compared to other FTP clients. I appreciate that he took the time to do that.

I have just upgraded to v 6.8 Build 1904 having used Direct FTP for years, but wish I hadn't. It's painfully slow uploading files, something has got to be wrong with it.
I have a 3MB connection for uploads and 30MB for downloads and the program seems to really struggle.
It's pretty much unusable in its current state.

Will try your suggestion above to see if I can log what's going wrong, other than that I will uninstall and go back to a previous version.
