Jeff was asking about a background image so it doesn't make any difference, does it? And even if you do this with an image in a row or column it can't affect the SEO if the image information is set up correct.

using the "alt" tag on an image is not as effective as having actual content overlaid on a background image. This is especially true if you have a small Sentence you want to use. Here is an example, I am currently working on a website for a client and just above the contact form you will see three columns with background images and Inspirational sayings as the content.

If I were to use photoshop there is no way I could gain the same SEO from an "alt" tag.

I understand what you're saying about overlaying 'text' on top of an image but wasn't Jeff just asking about using a color overlay on an image?

That's why I guess I got the wrong idea about this thread.

I also understood it as just wanting to use overlay on an image, in which case wouldn't make any difference to SEO, if it was already on when bringing into FF, in fact to be perfectly frank, there is sometimes too much emphasis put on SEO in my opinion, (depending on what a site is used & designed for) there are other factors that are more important in considering SEO as long as there is good well written content, and useful information, then a couple of images on a page as background won't make that much difference.

Anyway at the end of the day, one thing became cleared, was that he was suggesting introducing a colour overlay button for IMAGES adding to the funtionality of FF, not just a new solid colour background, which is where I got confused, in the beginning.

I apologize I miss read the question. There will be no SEO impact on putting a color overlay on an image photoshopped or not.
