HTML Editor 2008 - Latest downloaded...
Hi group
I have been using this editor for years now (obviously not the 2008 version though) and have an interesting bug/issue that, according to CC support, I am the only one to suffer from. I refer to the highlighting/code completion feature. I love this feature and consider it a 'must' for any serious editor. The problem is that on my Vista Business machine, the competion window shows up like this:
http://www.pcanytime.co.nz/blue.jpg
which renders it useless to me. This picture actually shows it clearer; in use I can barely make out the lettering beneath the blue highlight.
It should show up like the one in DirectFTP, which does work on my machine. This example can be viewed on the CC DFTP beta page under the heading 'Code Completion'. Note the text shows white when highlighted.
http://www.coffeecup.com/direct-ftp/beta/
Can anyone else confirm?
No amount of options tweaking seems to make any difference so I am reasonably sure it isn't a local setting causing the problem.
Other than this issue, the editor is a wonderful piece of software.
Cheers
Dave.

Hi Dave,
I have Vista home, and all is well with the code completion. I could not see your posted image, and when trying to access your pcanytime site, it seems to be down. Just thought I would let you know, in case there is a problem that you were not aware of.

Hi Cliff
Thanks for that, but my site is not down (my server logs show no downtime for weeks) and the image shows up here fine when I view the post. I have just remoted into a friends computer in Spain and checked the post from there; it shows up fine as well, so I don't know why you aren't resolving pcanytime.co.nz from where you are... Most curious...
Weird, but thanks for letting me know.
Can anyone else (not) see my site from where you are?
Thanks
Dave.
Dave,
I will join you with the problem of reading the highlighted completion item. I have just started using the feature, and find I really like it, and usually know what is highlighted.
I will pass the information on to the programmers.

Dave, the image link now works. Might have been a problem at my end. Uploading was crazy slow this morning. I have not been able to duplicate your error.
Just a thought....could it be a contrast issue with the monitor on the business machine? My highlight stays a light blue, but the font does not change to white. If the contrast was set wrong, it would give me the same look as I see in your image. It's worth trying to see if the monitor contrast can be set, or the brightness adjusted to fix that highlight issue.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I have fiddled with the monitor settings but can't really get this much better.
I was wondering whether the ext is meant to change to white when highlighted or whether the ardk blue strip is just too dark. As someone mentioned, a lighter coolor would allow the text underneath it to show through more easily.
Ah well, I will persevere and wait for a possible fix/update to adress the issue.
Thanks all for your comments.

No, you're not. I have the same problem with Win 2000 and also find it unusable. Dark text against a dark background isn't a good choice. Even the slightly lighter highlighting color in this image isn't light enough for decent contrast.

I checked with the programmers, and the highlight color is set in your display properties. I changed my system-wide highlight color to a lighter color, and now it works.
I have replied to the programmer, that I now think the issue is not with the highlight color. In the HTML Editor, if you highlight some of your code, the characters change to a lighter color (in my case the color is white), but the auto-complete leaves the text dark.
I will let you know if there is any change in the situation.
The complete directions to change the system-wide highlight color is to open your display properties, click on the appearance tab, then click the advanced button. In the item box, select the "Selected Items" and then change the color using the color button to the right.
