Removing unused files on server

Hi
Can I remove the unused files on the server in bulk?.
I have changed my photo Gallery link on my web site to an external location and need to remove all the old images and pages on the site that I no longer use.
I feel sure that i have done it before but it may have been with another software application.

I feel sure that I should be able to synchronize both the on-line and off-line sites easily.

I don't know about synchronization with the editor but you can always use the CC Free FTP program to delete the files that are on the server.

Hi Tom
Thanks for that.
It is quite a while since I did anything with my web site so I may have used it before and just needed a reminder.

Going on 64 and maybe a bit of senior moments coming into play??.

I know the feeling, with quite a few less years to blame. :)

Hiya Brian,

I guess the best place to start here is to say there is no "synchronization" needed with the HTML Editor. It's not like some of the other programs like VSD or the shopping cart systems at all. It only edit whatever page/code/etc. you open in it and doesn't have the incorporation of needing to sync anything. In other words, files are separate entities when you use the HTML Editor, unlike the Visual Site Designer and a few other programs which create special files that you need to use to edit your site.

To do what you're asking is very simple if you have a Website Project setup in the editor. If you already do then you'll see the tree of files on the left side for the local files, and you will also have a tab named for whatever you named your Website Project. Click that project tab which is the remote tab or basically is your server. Locate the files you want to delete and delete them like you would anything else on your computer. This will delete them from the server. No need for any external programs to do this unless you're not wanting to setup a project.

Be sure you are on the right tab at the right time for this so you don't accidently delete your local files :P Hope that helps :)

I accidentally uploaded my website project in html editor to my server before I had made any changes to the theme. How do I remove the project from my server so that there is no content on the site yet?

Hiya Kenneth,

If you look on the left hand side you'll see tabs at the top of your file tree for your project. One of them should be named whatever you named your remote server name. Change to that tab (typically on the right hand side) and that is all the files on your server.

You can then navigate around and delete them from there. Hope that helps. Do make sure you're on the Remote server so you don't accidently delete your local files :)

i recently tried to delete folders and files on my remote server and Editor failed to delete them. Has anyone had this problem? Do i need to reload Editor? If I do that, will my projects be overwritten with empty projects? I tried WS_FTP 12 to remove unwanted folders and files on my remote server and it worked just fine. Previously, selecting a folder in Editor and hitting the Delete Key immediately removed the file without so much as a "do you really wanna" box. Now it doesn't delete at all, spits out error messages when changing folders and doesn't Refresh properly, too.

Help?
thanks!

I may be old fashioned, but I always upload to, download from and delete files on the server manually. I use CC's Direct FTP, but the ftp client you have will do the trick too.

My reason for doing it this way is that I want to see what I have, and where I have it. There have been times when the upload features in various CC apps were not as good as they are today, and to avoid any problems with uploading to the wrong folder - or even to the wrong server - I prefer full control.

Maybe not exactly the kind of help you wanted?
Ha en riktig god dag!

I don't think the HTML editor lets you delete folders but you can delete the files in them.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
