eBay and the AVI Casino, Two more...

Two recent events demonstrate why I need CCSC Pro. I just want more control over my selling efforts. I am tired of being at the mercy of markets and selling venues such as eBay! I have way too many items in categories making for a hard to navigate shop. I am so looking forward to sub-categories! As for the events:

1. I recently closed my eBay store for the third time in favor of listing items as Fixed Price (FP) for 35 cents for 30 days. Shortly the insertion fee for FP will go up to 50 cents. Add free auctions for items listing for 99 cents or less and stores inventory in search, more money for being lost in search.

2. I’ve been selling at winter markets at the AVI Casino in Laughlin, NV for several years. I sold at the Casino’s organized Market Extravaganza and at the Cloud’s Jamboree Gem Show. February always was a bridge month between the Jamboree and the Extravaganza. For years vendors were allowed to sell during February. After accepting our February rent we were told yesterday, on the fifth that the AVI Casino management had decided that we could no longer sell and had to tear down. We will be allowed to stay for the month, however, no selling. What part of selling is why we’re set up at the market don’t they understand? Anyone who hasn’t set up a large booth and sold outdoors in the wind and rain has no idea of the work involved.

Enough complaining about a done deal by the AVI Casino, I need the pro cart ASAP. Please, please!

I closed down my own eBay shop, due to the extortionate and constantly rising fees. This coupled with some really dumb ideas that eBay now have, like putting other sellers similar items on your live listing pages. Yep like folks would really want the competition's products appearing on the live listing page that you have a seller, have paid listing fees for. If anyone ever needed lessons in how to totally alienate your customer base, then eBay are the people to see. :)

The forthcoming pro version will allow folks to have an independent presence on the web, outside of the likes of fee taking auction sites, or overpriced and restrictive hosted cart solutions. They'll be able to set up the shop how they wish and not have to endure silly punitive rules, or a constant outgoing of fees to third parties. Now that just has to be the way to go. :P

Will, do you remember the eBay experiment in 2006 when stores were included in core search? I had my first eBay store and sales were on the rise. Then eBay raised insertion fees and took store out of search. Low blow at the time. BTW, eBay had raised their basic store month charge from $9.95 to $15.95 by that time. Fast forward to today, if I have to pay fifty cents for FP I don't want my items buried, however. that's the way it goes when you don't control your own venues. While I'm venting, Buy It Sell It (BISI) started out at $4.95 per month with no insertion or FVF fees. A real bargain! After I built my rather big store, the monthly charge was doubled. If I close my BISI store all my work will go to the cyberland bone-yard. Maintaining my CCSC on my hard drive is another reason I'm in a hurry for Pro.

Back to the AVI Casino here in Laughlin, NV. After years of allowing vendors to sell during the bridge month between shows the management told us to stop selling a few days into the month. They, AVI management thinks they are being "nice" to let us stay to rest of the month but tear-down all your tents and tables. I asked the marketing director how would he feel if he were told you can come to work and sit at your empty desk, oh, BTW, you will not get paid. Had the vendors known that the AVI Casino would withdraw our ability to sell this month, perhaps they would have found another venue for the month.

So....Pro ASAP please!

The tag line at the end of my first post wasn't hype for the program but a simple statement. The pro version will free you of shackles, ties, commitments, or any obstructions to developing and promoting your own business. The ONLY changes to that environment, will be the ones you decide to make yourself. :)

To put things into perspective, your own shop will make your products directly accessible to 1.7 BILLION internet customers, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Whilst you have to put work into promoting your enterprise, there's no reason at all why you can't be selling at least as many items as you did on sites like eBay, but without handing over a good chunk of your profits to others. :(

I feel as if when Will is speaking there is theme music playing in the background. Please don't take my sarcasm for, well, sarcasm. I agree with Will and am currently having the same problem with Amazon's price gouging their book resellers. Amazon knows nobody can compete with their market so they charge their resellers a bundle to sell.

Will, theme music please.

I don't know about music, but the 'theme' is independence. :)

Some folks are perfectly happy working for others, being told how to behave, what to wear, what opinions to have, what hours they'll work, what limits will be placed on their incomes and what holidays they can have. For the rest of us, well let's just say we live a different type of lifestyle. ;)

Pro Cart Creator is just a tool, it's how you implement that truly counts.

I could not agree more. Selling the idea is another story. Dragging people from what makes them comfortable for what is right, good or better is the challenge. The market demonstrates how irrational people are in how they act towards a product. People go to Amazon and Ebay because that's what people do, not because its rational, but because its irrational. Sorry for the philosophical side note :(

Call it my theme music
