Could you please tell me what the optimal image canvas size should be for the images that are posted to the shop?

When I use my original image sizes, the pictures are unclear and alot of information has been lost as the program shrinks the pictures down for display. I've tried various sizes for the images and they all seem to get lost in translation.

Is there an optimal image file size as well?

My images are of jewelry so I need as much detail as possible in the initial pictures as possible.

These are what I suggest:

Small: 200x200
Large: 400x400

Is there any way the images for display on click can be configured larger than the default,,,I don't remember the default in cart..
My largest image is 450wx625h when it displays though I have each images of 75w, 150w, 250w, 350w and 450w, the 450w is an important one as it gives the full effect of the product when displaying..

Sorry, but no. We have to set an image height and width so that the themes do not break. Someday we will add an option in Shopping Cart Designer for this.
