I downloaded SCC and have been familiarizing myself with it. My question is: is is possible to not have a set amount? I want customers to be able to make a payment or pay in full on something. Is is possible for the customer to enter the amount they want? Do I need SCDesigner to do this?

You'll need the formbuilder for something like that. This will allow you to take user input as payment amount.

So, I would create a form and insert it into the checkout area?

I would suggest setting up your shop as a Catalog then instead of an actual store, and then embed a CC Form with the Payment setups into the shop pages so that they can put their orders in through there instead of via the shopping cart system itself. This still gives you the nice shop setup, but the ability to make the form more to your needs.

Granted, they wouldn't be able to order the items directly on the product pages, but you could put a nice write up on your site to tell people that when they have decided what they want to order they can fill out the form to do so or to make a payment etc.

I don't know how many products you have, but if it isn't a ton of them you could create drop down lists or check boxes or whatever it is you need for the Payment setup in the form (haven't used it yet so not sure how it's all setup at this point, just know it's totally doable). This would give them the ability to either choose their items, or fill in text boxes with item numbers.
