Just for my vote on the matter -

I agree - I bought the product - the link should not be there. I should have the option to turn it off.

Trial ware - you should display it.

Plus - I think it is horrible that when my customer is playing around with the site before the purchase - clicks on the "Shopping Cart Software by CoffeeCup Software" link - they are taken from my site and pointed to yours.

This equals a lost sale for me or my clients.

Not cool!

Not cool.

I hope someone is monitoring this up at CC HQ - there is a consensus here that needs to be addressed very quickly. I am waiting to deploy my cart on my site but I won't be doing that until that link is gone. I know I can take it out for now; that isn't the point. I think that this could be done in 5 minutes by the developers and should be, asap.

We are listening to your requests and I am pretty sure it is something you will find as an option in an upcoming release.

Just purchased a couple of days ago and lesson learned - I should have read the forums before I bought it. I'm a big fan of Coffee Cup software but I too will not recommend this product or use it "live" until the (ridiculous) link is removed.

I agree with most other posts, fine in trialware, gone in the purchased version (why anyone would want it as an option is beyond me - it's easy enough to add if someone really wants to advertise for Coffee Cup).

Otherwise, after playing with it for a few days - excellent!!

Until an update is released why not just open your /css/default.css file and place this at the very bottom after everything else:

p#footer {display:none;}

This will remove the link from the footer (and the footer itself). Easy, breezy.

Let's not get all hurt.

or....

modify this line;

"footer"><a href="http://www.coffeecup.com">Shopping Cart Software</a> by CoffeeCup Software<

in the home, group, detail and cart xml files of the 'style' you are using, to whatever you want and wherever you want.

i.e.

"footer"><a href="http://www.mysite.com/contact.html">Contact us HERE</a> at Fred Blogg's Shop<

This will not change upon each upload. Although probably will change on program updates.

Both excellent workarounds but at the end of the day it just shouldn't be there.

That and the style editor would make this the best software available for this kind of work.

I found the inclusion of the coffeecup link in the purchased version of the software to be a strange thing, and frankly, a deviation from Coffeecup's own precedented procedure...

When I tried out the Web Form Creator a few years back, it had the Coffeecup link and such when it was in trial mode, but that link was removed when the software was purchased.

A company that produces software has to be aware of standards. Both externally and internally generated. It separates the pros from the hacks. Any software producer that does not know this shouldn't be producing software.

Ditch the Coffecup link in the purchased versions of Shopping Cart. It's making you look bad. You have affiliate programs, coupon codes, and ambassadors to sell your software. Don't be hitching a ride from your customers where it isn't offered. Show the integrity we all know you generally have.

Having to dive into the code to remove the link is unacceptable and defeats the purpose by which I use Coffeecup software to begin with - ease of use.

I personally can't recommend the Shopping Cart software, or use it until that link comes off. The fact that it is even there is unprofessional...the fact that it doesn't open a new browser window when someone clicks on the link shows a lack of thought and sends the signal that your client is not respected.

I believe that CoffeeCup has received the message loud and clear, and there will probably be something available, some kind of option to remove or not have the link on the page. CoffeeCup has said that they found other Cart programs that had links back to the creator of the cart when they were researching this software, so they did what some others have done and put a link. I'm sure it will get fixed up, just give them time.....

As for the link not opening in a different window, CC has also explained that. They made the Shopping Cart with valid XHTML code, something many would complain about if they had not used valid code. The code to open a link in a new window is NOT VALID XHTML, so they didn't use it. XHTML only allows regular links, and the target="_blank" is not valid XHTML code.

We definitely do listen to our users. In one of the next version this will be optional. We are not sure if it will be in the software itself or part of our Styler application so that you can customize the footer to fit your needs.

Cliff is also right, about the new window. We worked very hard to follow all XHTML standards, which is why it did not do that.
