Yeah not for the products, but the main pages themselves which is what he's looking for... I think? LOL He said for tags so people could find his site, I would guess that would be the ones for the actual pages not so much the content which as you said already is generated by the program.

The main Index.php page, Category and View Cart pages, as well as the Home Page if you have that one turned on in any manner all have specific places for those tags though, as well as any other extra pages you create such as a Contact Page and such.

Wolverana - thanks for the info; I found the meta keywords and descriptions areas on the pages.

Can you give me (a complete novice in this area) guidance on how to get listed with the search engines? I have read much, but your input would be great. Several have recommended looking at google webmaster tools.

Thanks again, Pete

hehe trust me, my input on it is the last input you want right now, I'm struggling quite hard trying to work the SEO stuff myself and not getting very far on it. Not sure why, but for some reason a lot of this just goes right over my head lol.

I'm sure there are a few here on the forums though that have much more experience with SEO than many of us do, I too would appreciate some input as to some good places to get "laymen terms" info at for this.

This page link will give you directions to submit your site to the various search engines.

Search engine optimisation is all about having good content on your site, informative product titles and clean concise meta descriptions and keywords. In your case Jo Ann, remember that it's spelt 'Jewellery' in most European countries, so bear things like that in mind when choosing good keywords.

Yeah I've thought about putting that spelling in there WILL, but right now I'm not planning to ship world wide yet, should I still put it in there and risk getting some angry people instead of potential customers later? Or am I seeing this in the wrong light?

Thanks for the link too, I'll check that out today at some point also :)

For me I create a product, put it in its packaging, attach an address label and take it to the Post Office. Only difference with International orders is they have a small blue 'Air Mail' sticker on the packaging and where appropriate, a customs declaration label. PayPal and Google Checkout both convert the currencies for you, so why limit your sales to your own country? :)

Hmm I guess I hadn't realized it would be that easy, I was thinking that shipping would be hard to get calculated (it's hard enough right now as it is as I have a dropshipping setup that I work with also that charges extra for it, just till I can afford to buy the stuff outright though). I'll have to look into that then as maybe that is limiting myself too much. Thanks for the push :)

The Internet gives you a whole new world of opportunity Jo Ann - literally. :)

Ya, now if only I could let people know I exist it would be a whole lot more opportunistic :P

Thanks y'all for all your responses...geat stuff!!

From what I have read it is important to submit a sitemap to the major search engines.
There are two options I am looking at:
1- Google Sitemap Generator (free)
2- CC Sitemapper.

Would appreciate your comments on either or both of these as to ease of use and whether you think they help your site get noticed....

Thanks,
Pete

While we are talking about search engines , my shop is a page within my website www.havelock.net.nz The shop was called boatstuff and I found that Google would find it within the top 5 provided I put NZ after it. So cleaver me changed the server name to boatstuff NZ now it won't find it at all. I suppose I will have to wait another month for the search engine to come around again. I would change it back again but I have altered all the links within my pages and I don't want to do that exercise again. may be I need to take another look at the key words.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
