Hi. If I have a "Live" store that's open for business what happens while updates (new products, deleting products, etc) are being FTP'd. Does the store shutdown? What about active shopping carts? Is there a way to actually shutdown a store temporarily?.... Are there any best practices that anyone can suggest?

Thanks.

That is a good question. I am not sure the tech answer for this, but I know that when I am uploading my site is still live and functional, but can get hung up sometimes depending on what a user may be trying to access. :D

Hi Jerry. FTP replaces files one at a time in sequence. Even the biggest file should take less than a second to replace, so in real terms your shop is still open for business as usual.

If you want to block access to a store, simply put a html page into your main web site folder. By default, browsers will always download a html index page in preference to a php index page.

Will is correct, the only potential hangup would be if you were deleting a product the same time someone was trying to access it, etc., however, everything happens very quickly, so you should have no need to worry.
