Greetings,

In site designer's insert image element feature, I get the file size is >1MB warning, but still would like to use this image without trying to resize etc., would it be best to upload the image in a directory other than the project folder and reference it with the url online option?

Why not compress it to Webp format, You can save upto 50% file size without loss of quality.

I use a free APP called Squoosh, which is great, (you can even use it on desktop (no downloading large files)there are others
