Is there a way to stop the 'update'...

Hi there,

I'm coming to the end of my free update period and am getting spammed by a notice telling me this.
Now I understand this could be helpful and have no problem with it per say, but I have no intention of using further updates for the moment.

Is there a way to turn of subscription/update notices off permanently? otherwise the program is in danger of becoming just another nagware program. I imagine this would be very easy to do as other programs already have this option in, but I can't find anywhere to do it.

Regards :)

Go up to the top of this page where you find your name on the right. Mouse over it and select Your profile. In there, you'll find a menu button 'Subscriptions'. Open it and select 'No thanks' for the service(s) you don't want. Save your options.

Mind you, this will affect all your CC apps, not only SD.
Ha en riktig god dag!

Sorry I should have said, I meant when opening Site Designer, the options you mention are all already set to 'no thanks' is that what you meant ?

There is not an option at all for Site Designer updates/subscriptions

I mean the notice when you start SD, and before it fully opens. It opens in a pop-up box and says

Your free upgrade period is about to expire in X days
To purchase one more year of free upgrades at a discount visit your products page

It then has a big OK button at the bottom of the pop up box

You then either have to click OK, to take you to the page or the 'X' in the top right, then it allows you to use the program

I don't know if this has changed recently

Just let it expire, (a little bit of patience required) then inform CC Tech Support and they will send you a code which you insert somewhere and there you go no more update notices. Maybe inform CC support now and get the code

I've contacted support, waiting for a reply.

It does seem much better though to simply provide a tickbox to turn notifications like this on or off !
I can only imagine it's a purposeful decision to leave one out, kind of sours my high opinion of the coffeecup software.

You can stop this message simply by upgrading to the most current version of the software. Why would you not want to do this :o

I have been using this software and all of its forms for over 14 years. Very solid company and product.

Wow, perhaps because upgrading costs money. and your software blast on the main page is ''pay once, own it forever'' you make a big deal out of this and put it centre stage.

And nagware is nagware, regardless of the time it takes to start nagging you, Here is the definition.

'Nagware is a software utility that "nags" users into upgrading or buying a premium version of software by sending constant pop-up messages or notifications. Software developers use nagware as a marketing tactic to remind users to take advantage of special offers and purchase software.'

So it would be good to add to your main splash page right after or on the ''own it forever' ''Software turns into nagware if you don't keep your subscription going'

Don't get me wrong, i understand why companies do this (for money) but luring people in on a 'own it forever' chant, and then not warning about the nag-box at the same time is at best ify.

You do own it forever and you can use it forever, if you choose not to upgrade then thats upto you, but you will always be using the older version,, BUT YOU CAN STILL USE IT FOREVER.. (The reminders are for those who don't mind paying to keep the software upto date with all the latest and greatest that Site Designer has to offer.

We are just everyday user on this forum if you wish to inform the CC team of your thoughts and feelings of such a thing, perhaps it would be better to address it to them via the support room, rather than firing off at normal everyday users just like you (most of whom don't mind paying for upgrades to help towards CC development costs keep its software the latest and greatest)
