For a non-breaking space, entering a lower case 't' (it's about the right width) instead of a space, and setting its opacity to zero in the colour selection box.

Typing &#160, ctrl-space, shift-space, ctrl-shift-space, &nbsp, holding down 'alt' while entering 0160 (or #160 or just 160) on the numeric keypad haven't worked for me.

I hope a better solution can be found.

It does create the   but it also puts a normal (breaking) space before it, and so renders the   ineffective. It shows as two spaces in the text or paragraph being edited, and deleting either of those spaces removes the

I don't think so but can you tell me a bit more about the use case so I can investigate? At any rate adding a   button to the editor would be a possibility, just want to make sure there's not other way of addressing this before taking that route though.

Thanks for looking at this. I'm not sufficiently experienced to know exactly what may be technically involved in a use case, but perhaps the following example (Note) of use of non-breaking spaces in RSD may help.

1. I have a block of text to incorporate in a text element or in a paragraph element within a column in RSD.
2. Depending on the length and source of that block of text, I either type it into, or cut and paste it into, the relevant element after right clicking in that element and choosing Edit Text.
3. A fair amount of the text may contain abbreviated references etc. For example, http://fc7777.coffeecup.com/bks/ft-pages/ft20.html contains at one point
"I Cor. 3:16-17, 6:19, Ex. 40:33-34, I Kings 8:10-11, Mal. 3:1"
where non-breaking spaces are needed at the points marked with an underscore here:
"I_Cor._3:16-17, 6:19, Ex._40:33-34, I_Kings_8:10-11, Mal._3:1".
Otherwise the references become difficult to read correctly at certain screen widths.
4. While still in edit mode in the text or paragraph element, I would go back to replace breaking spaces with non-breaking spaces where needed. At that point I find myself unable to do so -
a. Pressing space space enters a breaking space followed by a non-breaking space, and so the text still breaks.
b. Deleting either the first or second space while in edit mode just leaves a breaking space.
c. Entering non-breaking spaces in HTML Editor after completing one's work in RSD is not practical where several pages are involved.

At present I find no solution exept the workaround mentioned in my earlier post (entering a transparent alphabet character instead of a space). Even that is not satisfactory where, for example, the non-breaking space is to be part of an underlined link - the underlining disappears at that point as well.

Non-breaking spaces seem frequently necessary in responsive web pages; with fixed layout there may be little need for them. I haven't looked at the matter of non-breaking hyphens, but the example above shows that in responsive layout they too may be frequently needed.

Note: The example given was originally prepared in RLM with the text done in HTML Editor because RSD was not then available, and so the problem didn't arise, but nowadays I would be using RSD. I have started reworking the Sweet Harmonies part of the website in one RSD file so as to eliminate the multiple directories for those few pages, and have already hit the non-breaking space problem. That is what led to my 'transarent character' workaround. FC

I assume you are aware that preventing text from wrapping can make sections invisible (placed outside of the viewport and only visible following a horizontal scroll). However, if correctly understand what you want to pull off, adding a 'no-wrap' option for selected texts to the editor would probably be the proper solution here. Would that work for you?

It's not a use case we have run across and I would love to hear about this need from others.

I have a need to insert non breaking spaces in Responsive Site Designer. Is there a way to do it?

Try the space bar.

The simplest way I found was to use the character 't' or '^' where I wanted the non-breaking space, to select that character, click on the text colour button and reduce its Alpha value to zero in the colour palette.
