OK after many hours of trial and error as a Newbie with RLMP and RSD I started to make my first page ( not a index) that I really could use some expert advice on how to make it better before I continue. I have not finished it as far as the footer and the navigation links, I do have the Menue program that I hope to try and use to add the Nav on top.
I added to to the S-drive and I think I did it right?
The page is at http://kscandyfavors.coffeecup.com/fathersdaycw.html

Please help so I can continue, Ray

Ray,

Everything on your page down to the wrapper images is offset to the right. It doesn't look bad on my desktop but on a phone it's up against the right side of the screen.

Maybe some margins settings that you put in that are causing the shift. Go back and check those and see what you can find.

As far as responsive it looks good.

Ernie,
Thanks for taking the time to view the page i really appreciate it very much. Being offset to the right I am trying to figure out and fix, like you said may be in the margin setting
One finally good thing after all these hours I may be slowly learning how to do the responsive (hope so).

I am only trying to get this one page working, still have to figure how to add the Menu and then need to add the footer etc. then once it is okay I will continue to do all the pages.

Back to the page to work on it again.

Thanks, Ray

Ray,

I notice that your header image (ks-green-logo.gif) includes the email address and phone number as part of the logo.

Would it be better to remove them from the logo and have them as a text element for the phone and an address element for the email address which you set up as a "mailto:kreations@..." so that it become clickable?

Minor point, but I would also make the "Since 1994 - our 21st year" blockquote have a larger font size when viewed on a desktop size screen because it looks a bit small to my eyes.

Best regards,
John

John, Thanks for your input, taking the email and phone off the logo sounds like a good idea - Adding Address and phone Element, something I did not consider but will see what I can do. Adding larger font size for "Blockquote" thanks for pointing that out to me!

Been trying for hours and still have problems getting the padding and or margins just right, I don't want to add change any other pages until I at least get one right!

Back to the RSD again!

Thanks, Ray

From my experience of the two sites I have made with RSD so far (my own at eaton-it-solutions.co.uk and my sister's shop at whisperslongmelford.co.uk ) I would say that getting one page perfect first and then duplicating it for the rest of the site is definitely the most efficient way to work. I spent a lot of time getting the index pages spot on but once they were ready the other pages were comparatively quick.

I think having phone and email as text will also help with SEO but I'm no expert in the field!

Best regards,
John

John,
I agree with you 100% - The static site we have had all these years I am very nervous about changing until I know what I am doing.

I do have to say " Your sites a GREAT!" You put it all together so wonderful I hope I can in time do half as good.
Spent to many hours on this today will start again in the AM.

John,

Nice looking site (your sisters didn't load).

One thing about putting your email address 'on' your site. Sometimes that can lead to a lot of SPAM and unwanted emails. I prefer to use contact forms so nobody can get your email address. Just my preference.

Ray,

Like John said, get one right and the rest should be a lot faster. And, I always use my test domain to make sure everything is working before going live. The only down side to that is you may have to change a lot of links if you have everything working on a test domain.

Ray, Ernie,

Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, I see where you're coming from with this. My personal experience is that I get a manageable amount of spam - probably less than 10 a day and easy enough to delete, so the mailto: works well for me but I appreciate that may not be the case for everyone.

I used my "S Drive" domain to test out the sites before they went live - when I was happy with everything there I then used FTP in the usual way to upload them to the real domains.

Ray,
Good luck with the site and keep plugging away - you'll get there in the end and the switch to responsive layout is definitely worth the effort given how much people use phones and tablets for browsing these days.

Best regards,

John
