Resource folder re-ordering

Is there any way to re-order the resource folders so they are in alphabetical order?

I have created many folders and sub-folders and they all appear as they were created, whereas I'd like to see them in alphabetical order.

Dragging them just seems to move them inside other folders, not re-order them, which created another mess to sort out.

It puts them into alphabetical order when you export it

There is a way, but it is both fiddly and time consuming (depending on how many folders/subfolders).

I haven't exported the project yet, however there are many folders carrying resources for different sections.

I'd like the folders to be shown in alphabetical order to make is easier to locate a particular one. Should be simple, but does not appear to be!

Too late
It can't be easily done simply, should have been done alphabetically when adding a folder. I assume from that then you don't have any project documentation (notes)you can refer to with regard to what's you have where.
As I said in my previous post there is a way but not simple and very fiddly and time consuming, I would need make a demo video to show how, but cannot do that until tomorrow (Indonesian time)

It would be better(more relevant) if I had a list of the names of the parent folders and the sub-folders within to make the demo more pertinent to what you have got and how to make them in the order you wanted.

Try this first
Make a backup copy of your project file

In resources create a new folder (give it any name or number you like)
Collapse the other folders
Then drag and drop them into the new folder in the order you want them in.

There you have it your folders in the order you want them in.

you can drag them out of that folder and back into the project root in the order you want them in.

, If you want to leave them in the new folder you will need change the links pointing to them in your header / footer on all your pages

I am not home yet so haven't tried it to see if that works, it should

Yes, it does work. Wayan's latest post arrived while I was typing pretty well the same, describing how I did it.

I just added an empty folder called 'resources' and presented to it the other folders in the desired order. By 'presenting' to that 'resources' folder I mean
1. I left-mouse clicked on the folder to be moved and kept the mouse button down, and then
2. dragged that folder up to the name (not the contents) of the 'resources' folder.
Releasing the mouse button puts the dragged folder at the foot of the 'resources' folder.

If one needs those sorted folders back at the '/(project folder)' level, one can now use the same process to present them in turn from the top of the 'resources' folder list to the name (not the contents) of the '/(project folder)'.

Frank

PS. Trying to sort at the '/(project folder)' level seems always to create a mess as mentioned in the first post of this thread. If, when one starts a new project, one immediately creates an empty 'resources' folder, putting all new folders into that, re-sorting becomes a doddle: just create another empty folder, sort the subfolders from 'resources' into the new empty folder, delete the 'resources' folder, and rename that new empty folder as 'resources'.

I have by the way mentioned this type of thing previously in Site designer suggestions, as I do think it would be nice to have, something a bit like we have in the inspector panel, with the up down arrows collapse all containers (project files in this case) button, but nothing so far, perhaps either they don't think its viable due to the expense of developing such a thing, especially when it should be something we all should do right from the beginning. (one of the first things I was taught all those eons ago, about the need for documentation/planning etc when starting new projects.
Ahh well I hope that you can get it working Mr Swan and it turns out as you expect, and we live in hope that one day the CC team may consider adapting/adopting something like this in the future.

Take care everyone stay safe & warm wherever you all are.

Thanks for the suggestions. I thought it may have been something like that.

It's not really practical as the project may change over time and new folders will be added as the site grows. So they will still be out of order when that happens.

Hopefully CC will enhance the resources management to improve it in some future release.
