Does anyone know if there is a good discussion forum that can be used on Windows servers? Possibly free?

http://forum.snitz.com/

I used it once and found it to be fairly easy to setup and administer.

You can run PHP and Mysql on Windows if you want to use a PHP BB System.

Thanks, Tom. I'll look into the Snitz forum.

I've always herard that there is a lot of hassle making PHP and Mysql work on windows, so I thought I had to find something else. I only have experience with PHPBB on Apache.

I'm asking about a forum on Windows server for someone else, personally I prefer to stay with Apache.

I recently did a similar research for my own use. I think your best bet for Windows based forum will likely be "Simple Machines Forum", and yes it's free. There is a website which specializes in forum reviews called forum-software.org .. try visiting them.

There is another one written in .NET called YetAnotherForum
YetAnotherForum.NET (YAF) is a Open Source discussion forum or bulletin board system for web sites running ASP.NET. The latest version is ASP.NET v2.0 with a Microsoft SQL Server backend. The full C# source code is available licensed as GPL.

You are welcome ..
Obviously, Php side has much better options available. After doing some personal research I had recently helped a friend install MyBB forum on a website (You can look it at http://www.weightism.org ). My preference goes in this order ..

1. vBulletin (not free, undoubtedly the best)
2. MyBB ( free, similar to PhpBB, lesser memory hog, pretty cool options)
3. Simple Machines Forum (Windows compatible, free)
4. PhpBB (free, memory hog, was best among free options 1 year back)

I wish this forum software (Coffee cup forum software) was also available to to us, I find it pretty nice too. I know this has been already proposed earlier ..

My friend, who I'm asking these questions on behalf of, came up with a forum called FuseTalk. Has anyone any experience with it?

I too use Simple Machines Forum. SMF forum rocks. Way better than PHPBB in my opinion and I've used both. Admin just has to click to update the forum itself for security patches and so forth. The program does the rest.
