Thanks for all the attemps , but editing is not going to work

I think what i need is the ability to do a good old fashioned tracing with tracing paper.

I was hoping someone would have a computerised version of doing precisely that, but just in outline.

So i can then ALSO enlarge it keeping the quality good.

Thanks everyone

Viv Check out "Edge Detect" that is a feature that may help, sounds like you will have to learn photo manipulation. Some programs allow layers where you have your image below and draw over the top, possibly a slow process, Better that hand tracing I would think.

Actually Viv you showed us what you receive but did not give an example of what you want

One more thing to consider. You can get a tracer. It is what artists use. You place a photo in it and it projects the image onto your canvas/paper. You can get a precise copy of just the lines you want and you can preview your work by switching off the unit. Better than pure tracing and more accurate.
The Koykake would be the one.

Or If I was you I would take up Eric's generous offer. He appears to have hidden talents

Viv,
Maybe a little late on this but you might consider something like Corel, not sure how CorelTrace would handle it without trying but the long way would be to just draw the lines. Down side is for something intricate it can be time consuming. But Corel will create vectored line art that is precise and 100% scalable.

Is this what you are looking for?

just did the head, wasn't heavy on detail or extreme accuracy, but this is off the "from the original" pic on here and I created it in about 15 minutes. This is a gif, but in its original format it is completely scalable and editable without any loss of detail.
Since this is the first time I have attempted to embed an image I attached the file as well just in case this blows up, then again that may blow up as well...............
