Hey guy's, i'm trying to render my own graphics for a signature, however I need to crop some of the images, and I do not have a lot of money to spend but I would like a good program that can crop outlines and sections please, anything other than Corel Draw and Photoshop as I cannot afford these at this time
. Thanks guys! - Matt.

GIMP.

I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Ok i'll give Gimp a try again, umm is there some plug in I will need to accomplish this Eric? btw thank you!!
Another really good one is Irfanview
Hello Jo Ann, yes I downloaded it but couldn't figure out how to use the cropping system, i'm looking to outline an image so I can stick it on a signature, but i'm not really sure how to accomplish this using either Gimp or Irfanview

Hiya Matt,
In Irfanview when you first open an image it is automatically in Select mode so just use your mouse to select the area you want to keep. Then using the menu at the top choose Edit and then Crop Selection as you see on the screenshot below:

If you're using Windows 7, the Paint program is actually quite nice and has the ability to very easily crop images as well.

Try a free trial download of CC web image studio
Unless you have overlooked a free light version in your downloads
Nice crop tool, and if your using VSD you can add the frame with that afterwards by putting it ontop of a coloured box then preview it, then save as with curser over the edge of the box

@Jo Ann - What about cropping selection, like to trace out an image, i'm trying to trace out my character from a backround so I can use in a signature. Thanks btw for the pic, i'm a visual learner
@ VSD & SCCP User - I have the full version of Web Image Studio, I just don't know how to use it, lol, i'm trying to trace out an image.. don't know how to accomplish without photoshop.
I downloaded Gimp but i'm still not really sure how to accomplish this yet either. Don't know really.

Ahh I see what you mean now, you're wanting to use something similar to a magic wand to outline something that's within the image, not crop the entire image square. I don't know if any of the editors mentioned above can do this. I know you can do this with Web Image Studio, but it only works with the .wif image format that is a CoffeeCup special format, it doesn't work for imported images that I'm aware of.
I am pretty sure Irfanview cannot do this, but I don't know anything about Gimp. I use Paint Shop Pro for this, which is pretty inexpensive and fairly equivalent to Photo Shop (minus some major things of course). It's about $50 and has all the features you'd need that Photo Shop would have. It's been on sale now for quite a while so maybe check that out. You'll find that at Corel's website http://www.corel.com/corel/product/inde … rod4130078
Gimp may do this though so wait till someone tells us before spending cash as I believe Gimp is free.

This is a great free program: http://www.getpaint.net/
If you're familiar with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, you'll find this easy to get going with. I think It's much better (and easier) than Gimp
And... it has the wand tool:

Other powerful tools include the Magic Wand for selecting regions of similar color, and the Clone Stamp for copying or erasing portions of an image.
