I haven't tried it yet Tassie so I'm not sure...

I just looked over their site page and went through all the different posts (scanned them basically at the end area) and that's correct Tassie. It can apparently be done with a bit of fiddling around with some files, but it's not inherently there past IE6.

Also the program is no longer being developed or supported so that may not be a good way to go.

thanks for that tip Per, I'm checking it out myself too as it looks pretty nice.

Tassie, this is a Alpha released program just so you know so it could have quirks of it's own, but it does look pretty nice so far as I can see. I'm going to give it a shot and see what it's like too.

As Jo Ann pointed out, and as its site mentions, IETester isn't finished and I did find some unfaithful renderings produced by it (maybe a year ago), so I use MS' Virtual PC for testing earlier IE's, but I think you need at least the Professional version of your Windows OS to go that route. IF not possible, IETester is the easiest alternative I've found.

Note that the free VPC images are released about every three months, when the previous releases are due to expire.

If you have IE8 running, there's a way to switch the Browser Mode and Document Mode to IE7. Select Tools > Developer Tools (or press F12), then click the Browser Mode option along the top toolbar. J tells me it doesn't render identical to a native version of IE7, but when I tried it everything looked the same as it did in IE Tab.
