i will recomment powhosting .

PowWeb, that is. Scared me. I went to Powhosting and it was a ridiculous 100-400MB, not GB. :P

Some of the host services mentioned so far only offer around 10GB for the price range that several others offer unlimited. Now I know some may say "only??" It all depends on the user, of course. Some only host the few MB of files for their site, while others like myself put up 30GB of photos as more of an online storage (I haven't been warned/canceled yet). Whether or not that bends/breaks some rules on the usage (as a backup), I won't be the judge. I've been with Hostmonster for a while now and am fairly happy ($5.95/mo currently, I believe). My only hangup so far is the limited access to A/MX record settings, which requires you to ask them to make changes being on a shared server. Some comparable ones are hostgator & bluehost.

Be sure to pay attention to the details, like # of mysql databases and of course PHP. Some may only offer 1-10 mysql databases, which you may never think of using, but you can fill those up rather quickly if you have multiple sites and get into things like Web Form Builder, forums, Joomla/Drupal type sites, etc.

My only experience with 1and1 was to help someone transfer their domain away from them. I can't comment on their service myself, but I've read more bad than good:

Obviously, there's some people here with positive experiences, so like everything else reviewed online, it seems hit & miss. Gotta love reviews online:
1st person "Great!
2nd person "Sucks!"
3rd person "Stable!"
4th person "Unreliable!"
Which is it?? Drives me nuts :P

I think thepeople who give 1and1 a bad rap are people with dedicated servers and not the shared hosting.

What I like about 1and1 is they have an intuitive control panel and fast support, they are very reasonable and reliable.

Customer service always has an accent but I don't care as long as we communicate and the service is good.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

In defense of 1and1, I will comment about my customer service experience.

I generally do not have immediate needs, so I tend to fill in their form and let them respond. That response has always happened fast. Thus far, I have never noticed an outage. I have been with 1and1 for over two years, and I am happy with the service.

As for looking at online comments, (this is something from a business class) generally only one out of 20 dis-satisfied customers will complain, and only one out of 100 customers that are satisfied will tell you about it. Not sure how directly that will apply, but having seen some of the complaints here, I understand that a learning curve can create frustration and frustrated customers will have one and 20 make a complaint and they are likely to be verbal.

I suggest looking at the financial online information and see if the company has been around for a while. If it looks like they are stable, then look at the contract and see how easy/hard it is to move to a different provider.

Well, it's definitely true that people much sooner speak up when dissatisfied over those who are happy. My only experience was it seemed that if you registered your domain through them, that they wanted you to pay for their hosting rather than allowing you to point the domain name elsewhere. So, I transferred the account to GoDaddy, which allowed more freedom. So, that really didn't include the class of service regarding hosting at all. If their control panel offers more access to settings I'd like, I wouldn't rule out the idea of switching to 1and1 myself. ;) You guys should get commission on the sale, if that's the case. :P

I've been with 1and1 for 8 years now and have directed most if not all my clients there as well. Not one complaint from any of them. They are all on shared hosting platforms. I use the Business Hosting Package. I also have a client that uses the Developer Hosting Package. Difference? Space and price.

Good luck.
Let's not get all hurt.

I have been using Host Gator for the last few years with no problems & very fast & helpful tech support.

I have been looking as of late because I am not real sure about the new packages they offer which are unlimited supposedly. I say supposedly because they are now limiting Inodes which is basically the number of files which in my case isn't a problem yet but I think it could become a problem.

I looked at 1&1 recently but I really am used to CPanel so just not sure I want to change to a host without it. Also with Cpanel the move is very easy going from Cpanel to Cpanel.

For now I am still very happy with Host Gator.
Everyone has an opinion & this is just mine sorry if it offends anyone.

Go with BlueHost webhosting. Rates are very low and have a number of different hosting options such as monthly, yearly, etc. Their control panel and extra applications make administering the websites easy.

Check them out at www.bluehost.com

If you would like to see web hosts discussed endlessly, from both the customer and provider points of view, take a look http://www.webhostingtalk.com/.

I have just recently switched to A Small Orange https://www.asmallorange.com/, after researching and considering everybody under the sun, and am delighted. They are a cPanel host, if that matters to you one way or the other. Their plans start at $25 per YEAR!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
