i will recomment powhosting .
PowWeb, that is. Scared me. I went to Powhosting and it was a ridiculous 100-400MB, not GB.

Some of the host services mentioned so far only offer around 10GB for the price range that several others offer unlimited. Now I know some may say "only??" It all depends on the user, of course. Some only host the few MB of files for their site, while others like myself put up 30GB of photos as more of an online storage (I haven't been warned/canceled yet). Whether or not that bends/breaks some rules on the usage (as a backup), I won't be the judge. I've been with Hostmonster for a while now and am fairly happy ($5.95/mo currently, I believe). My only hangup so far is the limited access to A/MX record settings, which requires you to ask them to make changes being on a shared server. Some comparable ones are hostgator & bluehost.
Be sure to pay attention to the details, like # of mysql databases and of course PHP. Some may only offer 1-10 mysql databases, which you may never think of using, but you can fill those up rather quickly if you have multiple sites and get into things like Web Form Builder, forums, Joomla/Drupal type sites, etc.
My only experience with 1and1 was to help someone transfer their domain away from them. I can't comment on their service myself, but I've read more bad than good:

Obviously, there's some people here with positive experiences, so like everything else reviewed online, it seems hit & miss. Gotta love reviews online:
1st person "Great!
2nd person "Sucks!"
3rd person "Stable!"
4th person "Unreliable!"
Which is it?? Drives me nuts
