Also, isn't Bluehost the one that doesn't like to play nice with scripts and such? I'm pretty sure it's Bluehost that alters there settings and expects you as a coder and web builder to alter your codes to fit their system rather than the other way around. Most hosting services accommodate the most current trend etc. as much as they can it seems, but Bluehost does not do this and you'll most likely find that many things won't work with them.
So although Bluehost may be "fine" as far as traffic measurements, it most likely won't be for CoffeeCup's scripts as well as many other scripts.

Chad,
Thanks for responding to my question and for the additional clarification. I guess it looks like BlueHost is definitely worth serious consideration---for my needs anyway. I only plan to have one website on my account (it's for a nonprofit, so technically---and legally---I can't have more than one website on the account unless each additional website is for the nonprofit as well). However, it's really difficult to know up front how much traffic I'll be getting. I'll just have to see how much interest there is in the mission of the nonprofit before I'll know how much traffic I'll get, which may take six months to a year. By then, I can re-evaluate my needs and change hosts if I need to. Thanks again for your input!

Jo Ann,
I guess I posted too soon (or too late?). What's all this script stuff about?

Hmm, I hadn't heard that before, but if that is the case I wouldn't even CONSIDER BlueHost. Go with one of the big boys, Hostgator, GoDaddy, Dreamhost, or 1and1. Just my two cents.

Well, I called BlueHost to ask them about this scripts issue, and they told me that as long as the scripts are compatible with Linux and PHP, there won't be any problems. They also told me that I won't have any problems because I'm not using any scripts in my website. I just have a basic 35-page "text plus a few graphics" website, and I don't expect to be changing it to include "scripts" (whatever they are) anytime soon. So, I guess BlueHost would be fine for me, huh?

Hiya Tom,
The types of scripts I'm talking about are created from programs like the ones here at CC such as the Form Builder, Photogallery, and so on. There's been quite a bit of posts here on the forums about them not working correctly (as I said I'm "pretty sure" it's Bluehost, but I could be wrong... but I don't think so lol). When the people that had trouble with them contacted Bluehost support about it, they were told that it's CC's software that is to blame and that they had to change some of the code in the files and scripts for them to work.
Now I don't know about you, but I use a lot of the programs here on CC and they work on 3 of the more popular servers for me (goddaddy, Hostgator, 1 and 1) as well as Site5 where I have my main hosting at. They work at dozens of others for many other people here too without any problems. None of them have ever made me have to change a thing and all worked right out of the box so to speak.
This will not be an issue for you if you don't plan to use any programs other than the HTML Editor or VSD where nothing scriptwise needs to be added to your site. If you think that at some point you will want to add say a form or a gallery or video/audio using any scripts or programs (CC being my programs of choice of course lol), then I wouldn't use Bluehost. Go with the others, they are just as cheap, definitely more receptive to issues, and they don't expect the world to revolve around how they have their servers setup.
Just my suggestions

Jo Ann,
Thanks for the additional info on scripts and webhosts. All I'm using is VSD, so I don't have any scripts on my website, and I don't have any plans for any scripts for the foreseeable future. So, I won't be affected by BlueHost's strict requirements on script compatibility.
On the other hand, if I wasn't concerned about the resources problem that Chad described earlier, I'd take you up on your recommendations to use 1&1 or Hostgator. But for the near term, I think BlueHost is probably my best bet because I don't like the thought of worrying my account being terminated at 1&1 or Hostgator for having too many concurrent connections, and I can't justify the $24 per month cost for VPS at Dreamhost or another webhost for at least the first year.
I just wonder if there aren't any other issues besides these two (script compatibility and limited resources) that I need to be concerned about. I also wonder why these two issues aren't pointed out on the home page of every webhost (or most of them). Seems a bit deceptive to me for them to not even mention these issues.

Just for your future reference Tom, here's a link of conversations with people having problems with Bluehost and the kind of support they got. BTW, just so you know, I really don't care who you go with lol, but I just want you to be sure when you do that it's what you want. Later, when you decide to add some cool applications to your website like photogallery or forms or calendars or whatever, this is where you would have problems, and they will not fix it for you, so be very very sure before you go with them:

Most of the hosts that I have been working with over the years seem to be ok for the most part..
The only real issue I have run into on some is limits on sql queries and slow sql reaction times for the ones that have shared sql. But we don't really have that problem with CoffeeCup stuff.
It is nice to have access to the php.ini file to set your own limits and stuff...

Just a heads up. 1and1 is offering 1 year of free hosting for new customers with no strings.
