Web Form Builder, Is it worth it?

Ok I know I am behind the curve on this since the first I have heard of this new spinoff of the Form Builder I already have.

So seeing that there isn't any kind of upgrade price & no real trial for people that wish to use their own servers Instead of the new beta S-Drive. Which I am pretty sure will come with a monthly cost I decided to ask what others think of the new offering & if it is worth the extra $39.00?

At this point I have no real opinion but at $39.00 on top of past $$$$s spent I need more opinions. Incidentally I have been looking at other options for the future due to the increased use of non flash devices & the fact that most of my sites now use WP instead of HTML.

Thanks in Advance.

Hiya mcgyver210,

I can definitely say not only is it already worth it, but with all the great features on the dev plate to be added yet it will be one heck of a powerful little program. I really am sorry you missed all the hype, emails, forum links etc over the past couple months to upgrade for the special price, but it's still worth the full price of it.

Also, if you want to trial it, just use the S-Drive to work with the program and see how it all works. Even though you can't upload to your own site with the trial, it still will show you how powerful of a program it can be.

Also you can use this on your Wordpress sites as well as Joomla and blogs and all the great CMS sites out there for the most part, it's not just for HTML Sites anymore like it used to be. Well you could use it before on CMS sites, but it was pretty tricky.

Anyways, that's my thoughts on it, definitely worth the cost to upgrade, much more features, many more to come, and a lot more customizable already and more customizations coming too yet. Take the trial for a spin and check it out :)

Jo Ann Thanks for the response!

I don't have an issue with the trial using SDrive accept that will do me no good since I have no intentions of using the SDrive at this point. This would mean to see how it works with my current servers I have to spend $39.00. My concern is more to I don't want to find out it doesn't work for whatever reason with my servers & sites after purchasing.

I learned my lesson when I wanted the Form Builder only but instead purchased the Super Pack only to find out some of the programs offered wouldn't work with my current OS & were no longer being developed so in reality they were useless. I still found value in the ones that would work but had a definite sour taste from the ones that I never could use.

I don't mean to sound like I don't like CC but I am a natural Pessimist always planning for worst case scenario & it can be more pessimistic based on past experience. Also as I said I have been looking at other non Flash offering, some free some paid but most cheaper although if the new WFB is good I don't base my whole decision on cost alone.

Question: I noticed you said it works well with WP, did you mean with independent servers or SDrive? I ask because I remember seeing something about it works GREAT on SDrive but it wasn't tested on WP independently yet.

Also can you compare it to old one with Positives & Negatives or even give some Positives & Negatives just based on the new spinoff?

I have read similar statements to this so often now I decided to look thru my emails I have received from CC. What I found was One singular email out of the 225 emails I have received over the years that mentioned a $69.00 MegaPack. This email really didn't say it was a new version that replaced the old version. It said it was being re-engineered. I am a Pack-Rat that keeps all email I receive from anyone I have any personal or business relationship with so unless other emails never made it I only received this one which wasn't very clear or even a real special any better than the current $39.00.

So for people like me that mainly go to the Extremely well designed Download Section how was I supposed to know about the special $29.00 deal.

Oh well either way I have to decide if I will purchase this new one. So I am still interested in the Negatives & Positives along with anyone that is actually using this on their own servers & WP templates?

Thanks Again

Hey McG - Just so you know, you (as a CC Software user) have access to one free S-Drive/Stream account. That will allow you to try out 1 form and receive 100 reports from that form (each month). Once your form is published to S-Drive there is an easy way to embed it into your site on your server. I'd strongly suggest you give the trial a go and see for yourself what the hype is all about and whether it will fit your needs or not.

Hiya McG,

Yes it works on WP outside of S-Drive. It takes a bit of working it, but not as much as it used to with the Flash setup from what I understand. Here's a link to the pertinent things that you need to know for your server so you will know if it will work or not. If your server and computer meet the requirements, then there's no reason at all it shouldn't work. Keep in mind if you're using Windows 7 or Vista you may need to set the program (and sometimes the installer too) to Run as Administrator, thanks to MS stupid security setups. Other than that if you meet the requirements, it will work on your server:

Here is a link which is the main site page for the new program itself to the comparison chart of the Flash vs. HTML form builders. Just scroll down the page and you'll see the current features, the up and coming features, and the possible features currently in the works.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Guys & Ladies I think my main concern is being missed.

First I fully understand the SDrive concept & the one Free but I will not spend $39.00 non refundable when I already think IMO it is essentially overpriced & too similar a concept to what I already paid for. No need to explain how it is end of life etc I don't agree & we will leave it at that.

I have been reading the post on this & it seems the main problems that creep up are to do with using it on your own server space. What this means to me is if for any reason it will not work or is more complex than alternative FREE, Paid, less or More expensive doesn't matter. Im not cheap & don't mind paying for useful products (I originally came to CC for Forms & ended up with their best pack) but I am sick of paying for products that over promise & under deliver.

As for all the excuses out of all the Lifetime Licenses I have purchased over the years only two companies have really IMO honored that statement so I really don't trust Lifetime Licenses anymore since it is worthless when a company changes the name & stops development on the old one. Example: CC stopped development on a few programs I was never able to use in my original purchase which I didn't find out until after I gave them $$$$s. Although as I have said before I have found value in some that did & still do work.

So in conclusion it isn't that I am not willing to try it out. I just wont hand over anymore $$$$s without knowing if the new one will be a real benefit to me. So without access to the main features I will use doesn't matter how well it works on SDrive. Some of the post here make it seem as though it is GREAT for a beginner that needs the SDrive capability but I prefer no more monthly ongoing fees than I already have & I have quite a few sites for my business ventures which would necessitate the monthly fee already addressed.

Im still reading the post on this but so far not enough info to make me jump. My son is even working on his own form now for us since he has been studying software development.

So can anyone give me more reasons to purchase the new one that don't include the SDrive capability?

Don't take my opinions as a Sign I am not really serious I am interested since CC has made some very useful programs in the past. Im just not convinced yet on this ones unique value. The info read so far on their site & here isn't enough although I am still reading.

For someone like me with very little coding experience, it was a real treat to be able to replace a Flash form with an HTML form in a matter of minutes so now it will display on all devices. I had just started working my way through a Sitepoint book (Fancy Form Design), when the CC Form Builder became available. So what would have taken me many hours to figure out got done in minutes.
...And it's not hard to upload it to a non-Sdrive site.

Just one reason, and like anything, it won't be the right choice for everyone. But for me, I got my money's worth out of the Flash FB and don't regret a penny of it. I'm sure this new FB will be worth it for me as well. :)

McG,

The Lite version is identical in every way to the Full version other than the export capability for putting on a server other than S-Drive. Taking the Lite version which you have free already without paying a penny, which is fully functional, and not timed out like the other Trials are, will show you exactly how it all works. If you look at the links I gave you, they will tell you straight out if the program will work for you or not. If your computer and server meet the requirements, it will work. The only thing that will stop it from there is user error lol. Other than that, I am not sure what else you are needing to hear, so maybe be more specific and tell us exactly what your concerns are that we haven't covered already so we can help better.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm a little confused So have you actually purchased & used the new HTML version?

I assume you are using it on a linux server which is also what I prefer. My problem is what I liked about WFB "Classic" was it automated the task. I can do some HTML & what I don't know my geeky son seems to figure out such as PHP etc. I'm questioning the true value in my mind since the automation seems dependent on the SDrive use. There are other scripts that can be used manually that are less cost. The reason I say manually is because it seems from what I have read it exports HTML & you place it in your page. What I don't get it it seems to still be using PHP so why can it upload to a nifty SDrive but not my server which is how it worked in the past, producing a code snippet to place so it grabs the proper info.

I also have read here about some having issues after purchasing with how it works on independent server space which in at least one case the answer given was get a new Hosting Company. This is a standard fall back answer when something doesn't work, Blame the Host Server.
