Point is Bill Gates doesn't offer free upgrades in the first place. CC did. CC never mentioned the 'during the life of the programme' bit when advertising 'free upgrades for life'. I now have to buy ANOTHER programme to do the same job of the programme I already have and which I was persuaded would be ok FOR LIFE. It isn't. It's a con. CC has lost credibility with me totally. Scott - tell us - how many more programmes will be rewritten so they are 'new'. Its all about principle.

You don't have to purchase the new HTML version at all Nick. If you are quite happy with the Flash version, it will continue to function and we will continue to support it. Our goal as a company is to always keep our software fresh and that may mean replacing products with new programs or updating them. We take each on a case-by-case basis.

"Free upgrades for life" does not mean you get free new programs for life. All programs eventually come to an end. You purchased it in 2007 and have had a great 5 year run with free upgrades! ;)

How long does this deal last? https://www.coffeecup.com/store/specials/megapack

Also, is it $39 without the deal and will you stop selling the Classic Version or sell the Classic Version for a discounted price? I have the classic version, of course?

Not only is that a great deal, but, the items you get with it are way over $29.00 worth themselves, so what the heck, you're really getting that update free in the end :P

Yeah I know it seems like it's the same program, but truly it's not. It's a "similar" program yes, but not the same one. Updating the same program would mean they altered the code of the old one, and that's definitely not what they did here.

Also, why would you think that because they say "updates for life" that it would mean they are "obligated" to always update that program no matter the cost, work, or the fact that the code becomes irrelevant at some point? Programs stop with a lot of companies. Take a look at any of the high end software companies and see how many programs that they have NOT ONLY discontinued but also discontinue their support for. Hell Microsoft alone has versions of windows in use, that function, that aren't broke in any way, but they have decided they will not support any longer and they aren't that many versions back. Truly you need to look at this realistically and realize that just because a piece of software has updates for life, common sense alone should tell you it's the life of the program. Not only that, they will still support it even when they have removed the Flash version from sales. How many companies do that?

People, really need to think about these things when they're being selfish and thinking they are being taken advantage of with things like this. Truly in the end it's us that get to take advantage of CC not the other way around. Support here is top notch, the software evolves on a constant basis until it can't any longer and is either discontinued completely, or in this case totally reworked as a new program, and we don't have to ever pay for the fixes and updates until the day it dies. That's a pretty good deal and take a look at the history of CC's software, it's not like things die in a year or 2, they last quite a while before the net changes to the point of it being obsolete. CC can't control the evolution of the net, they can only redo things so far before it has to be replaced completely, which is all they did here.

I'm sorry if you are unable to see that Nick. I'm sorry if you feel you are getting a bum deal, but what more can they do but not only create a new program to take it's place, but also a package that basically is giving it to you for free since the items included in the package more than take the worth of the price. How else can you expect them to help ease us into this new program that will replace the Flash one?

I don't want free new progammes for life. I am happy to pay for new programmes when I need them, as I have done quite a few times since 2007 and found them to be great. What I want is the free upgrades for life for the programmes I have bought, which was the basis on which I agreed to buy it.

And they provided that Nick, for the entire life of the program which now comes to an end when this new program is released fully. Truly it's not that hard to grasp when you look at the big picture. How many people do you know that are using Windows XP, heck it's was still included with computers not even 2 years ago, and now it's no longer supported if I recall correctly (or it may be a service pack of it that isn't, but you get the idea I'm sure).

They promise free updates also. You don't see them giving you the next version free do you? It's the same software only updated, it's built on the same programming and even though they rewrite quite a bit of it, it's always been using the same programming base for the most part. You pay hundreds for those releases yet you complain about $29.00 for this program which is a full rewrite from scratch? Why?

I've said my bit. I hear what you say. Price isn't the issue. It's a great price and no doubt a great product. You are right, I get annoyed every few year with Microsoft along with millions of others. Seemed like CC was a bit different. Chances are I will buy it but CC has lost something for me now. That's all folks. :(

Funny really if you think about it. For many people with no idea about how the programmes work or how they are built, then in reality this is the same programme that has been updated. For them, it has had a face lift and has added features but it is the same programme. CC has always sold the idea of great software that does it for you without having to know the ins-and-outs of software production or coding.

For those who undertand that this is new, different and focuses on a complete new architecture of coding and programming, then for those, this seems like a futile argument.

I think what we have here is simply CC is a victim of its own ethos and success.

All this radio button talk pales into insignificance when those of us have purchased the software and then find we can send it to an SQL data base or even a CSV file or text file.

Could we have an update when a beta will be available so we can at least use the forms we have made please??

That will be available soon. Please note, it only works with MySQL just as it did with the Classic version. You can however still use the forms you have now. The only differences is right now they are hosting on S-Drive.

what about the text file option that is in the old version? Its not in the new one?? Not everyone needs SQL. and with google docs taking over in many places surely out put to a CSV file is essential.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
