Design Question

Hi Everyone:

I have a quick question. I see alot of sites (competitors websites) that have a big flash movie playing on thier index page. That flash movie is usually playing a loop that shows clips that add up to a quick introductory. On their front pages I don't see alot of text. Mostly the first page (index page) has this flash and internal links to the other pages in the site. These websites all are ranked/indexed higher than mine in Google and other search engines.

I am wondering if they are placing text with better keywords behind (or underneath) the flash? I guess my question is can I place text (hidden from view) with adequate (not excessive keywords) underneath a flash movie?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

I would suggest reading about SEO techniques tons available even programs. Meta descriptions and keywords are a biggie. Links from popular sites help also. Consider seeking link exchanges. Even put adds on your car. Join forums etc. and I hate to say it but get with social media, anything to interest those with a smart phone glued to their ear.
Study your competitors page and improve on it. Takes time but it will improve if you try several strategies. Even consider Add Words or Commission Junction. I give freebies and use adsense to attract Google's attention

Google and yahoo etc dont necessarily find the home page index.html

a page within your website specifically aimed at seo is useful

no need to hide anything behind, under whatever, just a good title, and heading, limited number of relevant words, and a picture or two with alternative text, does wonders

Thank you Mr. Ambassador!

If you don't mind I would like clarification on the structure of my site. My company Data Storage Systems, Inc. sell many different products/solutions from various vendors. I have many different product pages and each product is unique. I should aim SEO at those pages (Product pages, about 250 pages)...correct?

Once again, thanks in advance!

Did you edit that Jo? thanks if you did. John you should give a link to your site. You say you sell various products from various vendors.
You could consider a shop approach. As it is in the interest of those vendors, they could possibly link to your site also.
With a different product per page I would say that it is important to aim the meta information for each page. How you describe the product is also important and it helps to add key words in the description.

You could add each page URL to Google if it is unique with your landing page describing the genre of the site. Getting noticed is the main aim of a web master. I mentioned using Google Adsense and or Add Words. The first will give you funds. But Google does search your site if it has adds on it. I Got top billing by adding adds.

I do not know your business but consider various discussion or news groups that maybe into that field.

Consider giving something away, that always gets traffic, Offers etc. There are free programs that will scan your site and give suggestions. I think most of us go down the seo path at one point or another.

I just remembered. "Bounce Rate" check that as a meter for improvements. That is my main indicator. The longer visitors stay on your site the better. You do have a blog don't you?

This is simple, if you only had 1 or 2 products (ie) my websites is for signet rings and wedding rings

Thats two basic products, (1) signet (2) wedding but dozens or more of each

For seo this is simple to get high ranking

if however you sell, hoovers, cars, handbags, shoes, shavers, fluffy toys, garden tools, etc etc etc etc etc ie 200 or so product names, your chances of getting good page ranking are 200/1 X the number of other people selling each product, so 10000's /1

Thats where Ebay comes in useful, but you pay 10% to them to get your products found
