I just used Free DHTML Menu Builder 2.2 to build a website menu and it showed great with Google Chrome but had an apparent script issue with Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3.6
It appears to be something within those browsers that feels there's a security issue with the script and won't allow it to run without tweaking browser options.
Anyone know of any settings in the script that make it more palatable for browsers in general?
TIA

Hiya Chris,
I'm not positive on this if that program has that Fix for active ... setting, but check to see if it does and if it's checked, uncheck it and see if that helps at all. Can't remember if it has it as it's been a long time since I've looked at that program. Post again if that's not it

Hi,
Looking at the options, it looks fairly basic in that sense and I don't see anything. I'll upload and attachment so you can see.
Thanks,
Chris

What kind of script issue, specifically?

What indication are you getting that there is a security issue? Which browser options are you tweaking?

Can't be sure. If you are getting an active-x warning in IE, then that's normal. It only happens when running locally. When the page is live on the web, the warning will not appear.
Do you have the NoScript addon for Firefox, or a similar addon? If that's the case, then you probably need to allow javascript in local files.
Hello and thanks for the reply. I am told that the DHTML Menu code is non standards compliant so it won't display correctly if the page is using a valid doctype. BUT, that I may be able to modify the doctype code so it's no longer valid and presumably, the page would load properly. That's a mouthful... :-)
Don't know the precise script issue. Both browsers were set for default settings. The issue showed up in my testbed as well as once the pages were put online. The page loads fine but the menu won't show and the default error code in the DHTML Menu Builder shows in IE that there is an issue with the script. With Firefox, the page loads - just no menu whatsoever.

Well, unfortunately, without being able to see the page online, it's impossible to know how to fix the problems you're having. What you were told above is correct for the 2.1 version, but 2.2 was fixed so it works fine with valid doctypes.
Fast forwarding to having purchased The HTML Editor...
I understand that The HTML Editor uses CSS menu design versus DHTML as was the case with the Free Menu Builder that Coffeecup produces. One of the really cool features that one could build with DHTML was the ability to place a functional menu system on top of an image (.jpg in my case).
I haven't been able to recreate this with the CSS menu design and am using build 305. The best I've been able to do so far is butt the menu up against the .jpg image and as such, it loses a lot of 'cool' value from where it was. Can you give me some pointers? I hope that I don't end up going back and trying to work this out with the Free DHTML just because of the functionality.
thanks,
Chris

Do you have a page on the web we can look at to see an example of where you've placed the dhtml menu on top of an image? Then it would be fairly easy to explain how to do this with the css menu.
Sure Cary...

is a model menu built with CSS (The HTML Editor)
DHTML *seems* to allow for 'layers' where a menu can be placed over an image. I'm hopeful that there's a similar provision in CSS.
