Google Fetch Question

Hello, Not sure where to put this but if not in right place CC can move it.
Ok I have a site made using RFF (1st one in signature) and the site is okay (IMO), but for some reason since yesterday I have had a problem doing a "Google Fetch", I sign in to webmaster tools I have been doing went to have Google Crawl some pages that I updated the first 4-5 I added all ok BUT after that when I try to Fetch ( even this morning) I get a message " Temporary Unavailable". I did a search and checked what google shows and it looks like the Bot is timed out??? One thing they say is to check with your Hosting company, just got off phone with them and they checked the site and ALL is working good and loads fast, not problem with them.
So any ideas? I did a search to see if any one else has this and many do, some even have said after 24-48 hours all was good again. Can this be with my xml sitemap? Something with CC? ( can't believe it would be)
Any thoughts and help is appreciated, also of 63 of 69 pages Google shows indexed.

I am speaking from memory when I originally made the VSD site of mine. If I remember correctly on that crawling and google fetch business, I believe that there was a limit on how many pgs you could do at a time and then you had to wait for like a month before you could do it again. Was years ago and I am a little foggy on that info. This stuff is rarely if never spoken of on the forums here. The google instructions on SEO information is very difficult to make sense of. Here is a pg that may have useful info: https://support.google.com/webmasters/a … 6359?hl=en also I have to read multiple times and study and read very slowly all of the google instructions on related topics of their analytic s and webmaster sites. Canonicalization sometimes is an issue. You could try running website insight and see if it gives you any leads on finding the problem. I had big problems when redoing the site with the google ID codes? Whether to use new ones or the old ones. Having new and old pgs up at the same time and with different ID codes and what the effect would be on listings?
I wish that CC would publish book on SEO or a current one, I would buy that quickly and study it.

Hello GregB, Thanks for the reply, if I remember ( could be wrong) Google would show how many pages left for the month to add, ie your allowed 500 for the month and as you add a page it than would show you have 499 left. It seems they done away with this? Also I only have 60-63 pages and I was only adding the updated pages at 5 at a time and so far it would be only 18 that I have updated. The "Duplicate or close top same info" on a page is something for me to look at again. Checked this morning the google webmaster tools and it shows a huge uptick on 4/1 so I know the site is indexed and working. Will READ again and again the link info u sent.
I missed the CC sale on "website insight" so will have to wait until the next sale.
Thanks again,

GregB I did some searching and Google does allow 500 per week as Fetch only and only 10 (per month?) for Fetch and Render so I have no problem in that sense.
I did a make and upload new sitemap.xml using the sitemapper and google accepted with no errors.
What I do see is that Apache ( I guess) has Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=256 Now my question is the 5 to low??? and may be causing the problem?? The hosting company again said all is working fine and fast.
Anyone else have any experience with this?
Thanks,

Ray, I think it is against the designers code of honor or laws or something to discuss SEO on the forums here. Its been my experience on here that asking this type of question is like pulling teeth. This area comes under trade secrets for web designers to get peoples business they can claim that they are better at this than other people and that is how they get customers. They are just not going to talk about this stuff on the forums. I went through all of the topic headings on the forum here and this area does not have a heading title on the forums no SEO section or anything related. None of the advisors have moved this post to another section or have they entered into the discussion at least so far. Personally I think that that characteristic of these forums is unfortunate. I had my site up on Netfirms for 7 years before moving to CC here, made the site with Frontpage express 95 a friend taught me how to do it. The site was pretty good looking and had pretty much fancy AV stuff on it. I knew nothing about SEO or google listing or search bots, it did not rank and the only traffic it got in 7 years was people who called up its url.
I had a roofer buddy who had a glorified blog up about his roofing company and claimed to be getting tons of business from his site. The site was ugly as hell but it worked and had current relevant info on it the the customers were searching for. He kind of with good luck chanced onto something that was working well for him. My site was good looking and worked very well but was getting no traffic whatsoever. So the SEO is critically important. In my opinion there should be much more content on the forums related to SEO than related to elegant design and function.
I need to accept the fact of life that CC forums are not for SEO.

Thanks for the info Greg read your reply and still think maybe just maybe one of the excellent designers here on CC would give their opinion.
On a update: Spent about 40 minutes today with my hosting company and again they checked and assured me the site was really working good and all pages are great. I than asked about that time out issue and it was decided it had to moved to Tier 2 for more tech looking into. Oh well will see I guess in a day or two.

I think you are wrong there, Greg. SEO has been discussed off and on, but it is a topic that you never actually get on top of, because of the ever changing standards and preferences at Google et al, among other things. CC has made programmes to help with CEO: Website Insight and Sonar, and also their Sitemapper.
I, for my part, have not entered into this discussion because I lack the knowledge, not because I didn't want to. And I have been following Ray's postings here, hoping that someone would chime in.

I remember the site you had when you first came to these forums. Not much to look at, to be honest, but it improved greatly with the lot of advice you got from forum members, and not to forget all the hard work you put in yourself.

To succeed with a website today you need to be proactive, is my thinking. Blogs, FaceBook and other 'social media' seems to be the way to go. Also, the planning before you even buy a domain, the domain name is important, it has to describe what the site is about. Also, what page titles, keywords and descriptions to use, but there Google has been a bit shifting from time to time.
Ha en riktig god dag!

Hello Inger - I do have sitemapper and it is great ( CC of course) made a new xml file earlier to upload really fast. Wish I was able to pickup webinsight when on sale may get the Sonar as I see it is less than half in cost. In the mean time as long as it is working I will just have to wait for Tier 2 to get back to me.

Hope u had a nice vacation :)
