There is a great help maual in the latest version of VSD, Kendrick. I can only explain in wXP but you'll find it at My Computer>Local disk>program files>Coffee Cup Software>Visual Site Designer. It's a PDF file so you can save it or print it out. Enjoy!

Also, there are templates available for VSD. Even if you don't want to use a template, you might have a look just to get some inspiration for lay-out and colors.
