Hi I just started using the trial version of visual site designer. I love the program but am evidently doing something wrong. When I save a page, a new website is created instead of just a page within the open website. Also, no html page is created. .
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong would be appreciated!

Hi Admin
You should start with your home page - under Page Properties be sure to fill in the Page Title and Page ID. Click the Add Page button to create a new page. As you add pages, you can choose to duplicate your index page or any other page in your site. Give each page a unique name/ID.
Create a folder to save your site to (My Site, for example). VSD will create a .vnu file, a back-up file, a Files folder (images) and html pages.
Can you tell us how you've gone about creating your site?

Hi paintbrush,
thanks for the reply.
I created a new website using a template. I then created the index page which works great. When I saved it to the folder it did create the index.vnu page. I then clicked "Ad Page", named the title page and page id, duplicated the html page, made the changes then clicked save.
It created a second " "_website using the text I typed in the Page ID box. So now when I go to open a website it lists the original site, and the second site which should actually be a page in the first site. It lists under those two sites the original index.vnu and the second page vnu file.
The original index.html page is showing up inside the the first "_website" folder but the html page for the second page does not exist in either "_website" folder.
I am wondering if something went wrong with the install. It just doesnt make sense.
Thanks for your help

To create a new website click on "save as" under "File" in the top navigation menu then give it a unique name. If you have your current website open when you do the save as it will copy everything that's in that website to the one you just did a save as on. This will be a different website or can be the same one if the ftp settings are the same. This will allow you to quickly change the total appearance of your website at any time. This way you could have a seasonal change.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Thanks Eric. I had the same problem on my website http://trainingaparrot.com but you explained it nicely and now I got it
Thanks Eric,
Now I know what I was doing wrong. I was clicking "file", "Save As" to save site to a directory I would remember on my external drive, thinking it would be saving the same site but was apparently creating new sites.
I had it so messed up I decided to erase my created directory on my external drive and to uninstall and reinstall the program thinking I would start clean. But now when I click "Save" for my newly created site it is trying to save to the old directory I just erased and cant find the "File" folder to save the images.
Does anyone know how to reset the "Save" to the default directory or where this directory is or get the program to save where it is suppose to save. I found the backup folder but need to know where the program is pulling saved pages from when asked to open a website.
Thanks
Susan

Saving a page.
I have a site up already. Im trying this program because my old one crashes all the time. My problem is when saving the same page to this new program, it will not duplicate the name of the page exactly.
Example: I need the page to read: www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/escortmount.htm
If I dont get it to read the same way, I will loose my google rankings.
This program keeps saving it as: www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Zescortmount.htm. I need that / between 350Z and escort. (The page was in a sub folder originally).
How do I get around this? The program keeps deleting the /. thanks!

countryjoy - You don't mention which program you are using, but it shouldn't matter much really... You should just be saving the page as escortmount.htm in the program, to your local drive. When you UPLOAD that file, be sure to upload to the sub-directory that the file originally resided.

Ahhhhhhhh thanks Phil..........that makes sense!!! I guess my mind is just fried right now! ( Im using the visual site program)...yep it doesnt matter..........
Guess I should have checked the reviews on this product before wasting all this time. They are terrible reviews. You guys really should offer better support and fix this thing. It throws files everywhere! Too bad, it is really cool...if it worked right.
Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
