For some reason the PDF quick start guide doesn't open. My Adobe Reader program works well online and opens PDFs on my computer.
Could something be blocking it from coming up?

Try manually going to C:\Program Files\CoffeeCup Software\CoffeeCup Animation Studio\CAStudioManual.pdf and see if you can open it that way.
