Creating a 'picture' for use in...
In the past, you demonstrated how to create a button (I believe in JPG) and use this image as a button in VSD. I am having trouble duplicating this procedure to design a new button, and also in importing JPG and PNG pictures for use in VSD. Specifically, I keep getting white 'boxes' around the picture which have thwarted my attempts at removal using GIMP and Picasa. Please help with these two issues. Regards. Dennis
Very easy to create a custom button in VSD. Use the toolbar on the left side of the screen. Select the icon 'Add a Shape'. Draw the size button you want. Select the icon off the top menu called 'Buttonize'. In the properties box that opens on the right, input the text you want on the button. Select Change style and select a style you would like. You can then create a mouse over button if you like. Select a different style and the button will change if the mouse moves over it. Make sure the text font matches and looks the way you'd like it to. Select the 'create a link' button to input what you want to happen if the button is selected. If you think you'd like to create buttons similar to this in the future then 'Save' you button.

.JPGs will always have an opaque background. If you need a transparent background for your image it should be a .PNG file. In VSD, .PNG files will have a black background that fills their bounding boxes. This does not show on the live site or in previews.
I don't use GIMP or Picasa, but I would suggest asking Mr. Google for transparency advice:

Coffee Cup's Web Image Studio is easy to use for buttons and web images. CC has hundreds of buttons and icons to be used within WIS and you can easily save your images as .PNG files from within the program.
