I download VSD and it works once. When I close VSD, I get an invalid installation error because of incompatibility with Vista. Any suggestions?

Sandy,

I don't have Vista, but I have read messages that you need to run many programs as administrator. I think it is a right click option, and it may stick once you do it.

Give that a try and if it does not work, let us know and someone that actually has VISTA may have the answer.

I've never heard of the "invalid installation error" in here or with my own computers, but as Bill said, you may either have to do the right-click "run as administrator" or disabled UAC (User Account Control) to avoid crashes while starting up the program. Although, I haven't tested this in the last several versions since my UAC has been disabled throughout (can't stand the nagging "allow?" prompts).

I recently had similar problems with the Editor. There might be some incompatibilty with Vista.

Vista allows for these incompatibilities by offer the ability to run in an XP SP2 mode. This means you could run VSD in "compatibility mode".

To try that you find the exe file under program files > coffe cup > VSD. Then right click the exe application. There you will see a tab "compatibility". From the drop down offered you can pick any mode you want right back to Windows 95.

Good luck.

I started running under "Administrator Mode" and now I can't see my files. Any advice would be appreciated.

Where did you store your files? in the default 'Working' folder? Are you able to navigate to that folder?

I'm running Vista home premium, and VSD in the default mode, but have the UAC turned off, so I haven't got this problem. Therefore I'm just guessing.

Windows Vista has a bad habbit of creating "virtual" folders for files from programs that it "thinks" are having difficulty. One thing to try is turning off the "User Account Control" in Vista. This helped me with many programs.
The next step is to look for a tab or text in your folder where you saved your files that says "compatibility files". These will be the virtual files, and then copy those over to a new folder. Restart the computer and then go into that folder to see if those files are there.
Try saving a couple of blank web pages with different names to see if the problem is cleared up. I also copied the invisable files to a backup folder so that I had a copy of the original ones.

Last thing to try (if you found your files and saved them) is to uninstal the editor, download a recent copy and instal again, making sure to restart your computer between every step. When you instal, right click the file and choose "run as administrator". That should fix it up.

Good Luck

Just in case this might be what happened, you don't actually log in using the Administrator account, but use your own login and right-click on the program's shortcut and choose "Run as Administrator."

If you were logged in with the same account that had the files and CoffeeCup programs installed, my second guess would be what Cliff is explaining regarding Compatibility Files.

Hi Folks,

I recently had to replace my old Windows XP machine with a new one. It is running Vista. I downloaded and re-installed all my Coffee Cup software. i can login to all my websites using the hosting services control panel but when i try to navigate the directory tree using Coffee Cup Direct FTP I get the error "no such file or directory!". The problem appears to be specific to Coffee Cup ftp because I installed the trial version of Ipswitch WS_FTP Professional 2007 and using the same logins and passwords I can successfully navigate ( as well as upload / download)

I tried the suggestion above regarding running the executable as "administrator" with no success. Any suggestions?
