It would be really helpful to have a "Properties " feature for the images on VSD. As various customers have posted elsewhere, one tends to end up with a lot of very similar images, or a lot of images that are not used, all with names like "IMG_123.JPG". It is impossible to tell from Windows Explorer or from VSD which images are being used and which are not.

In order to keep my web site folder clean and efficient - not to mention the space used on ones host - I would like to identify these images.

Oh, and if I want to use exactly the same picture somewhere else on my sites, I need to find it.
I have an inferiority complex - but it is not a very good one.

The reason images created by VSD are numbered ("IMG_###") is because the page is treated like one big image, sort of.

When it's saved, the page is sliced into a bunch of smaller images depending on the surrounding content. The exported images may not correspond exactly with the original images, since they could be sliced in the middle or cut up into a bunch of pieces.

These images are then re-assembled in the browser using CSS absolute positioning, so the page looks the way it did when you designed it. If you open one of the exported "IMG_###" files, you might see pieces of other objects in the background.

So, the only way for the software to keep track of where each piece goes within the html is to number it as the image is exported.

Hope this clarifies things a bit.

Thanks, Cesar, that makes sense. So the only way I can keep track of stuff is to look at the IMG_123.JPG files in the VNU Files Folder.

Here's my situation. On my web site, uphilltheband.com, I have the 'same' logo on every page. I would like to have them look exactly the same. I make them using VSD's tools. I suppose that I could find one that meets my needs and save it as, say, UPHILL.JPG, then import it as an image onto every page.

I can do that...

Will it keep the drop shadow and mouse-over attributes? Or do I have to re-apply them on each page?

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
