Hello,
When I link to a file that I put inside my .vnu_website folder. The files are created from FLV Producer hawaii.flv - hawaii.html - player.swf. So then I link the hawaii.html save everthing and upload to my server. Everthing works but my link when I hit my link it goes to http://grandpajack.org/files/Download/hawaii.html
I did not even create the download folder that was put in my files folder. Its created during upload.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong ?
domain is grandpajack.org
On the page the button hobby is linked to the hawaii.html
Thanks
John
I'm Have VSD 5.9.4 version along with the total package
VSD linking issue #2 - Post ID 5325
Hey John. The .vnu_website folder VSD creates is just an export folder. VSD never looks to see what contents have been added there (it'll actually overwrite what's there on the next save of the project). If you want to add files to the VSD project, you can go to Settings -> Add Files and choose the files to add. Another option is to upload those hawaii files individually with another FTP program like DirectFTP, and then just change the Hobby link to point to wherever they're uploaded on the web server. At least then, it can be somewhere else other than the \Download folder. Post back if I lost ya.

Ok, so the folder .vnu_website I should leave alone as it changes as I make changes and save it inside VSD. So if I have a folder on my desk top with my flash video I made with FLV producer or Adobe ect containing hawaii.html - player.swf and hawai.flv I link to the .html and then go to the ADD FILES and add the player.swf and the video.flv only. I think it does not accept the .html ?? And I do not upload anything out of the .vnu_website folder. When I upload from my main page it should all go up to the server.
What I have been doing wrong is uploading files from .vnu_website folder creating the link to open as /files/download to a blank page???
If I use the DiectFTP upload program in the past I uploaded out of the .vnu_webpage folder and thats wrong correct. I should go to the direct folder off my desktop and upload only the player.swf and hawaii.flv WHAT about the hawaii.html. ???
With the newer version coffeecup directftp do I link before I upload?
What about this route I found somewhere in the support area :
Follow these step-by-step instructions to add a Flash object to the VNU file.
Create and save the Flash within its application
Copy the HTML code to your clipboard
Switch to Visual Site Designer
Open the page where you want the Flash to display
Create an HTML object using the HTML tool
Paste the code into the Body HTML tab
Click OK on the prompt to begin the Add Files wizard
Click Browse to search for the XML file saved from our other software
Click Finish
Thanks

For those that either don't trust VSD's built-in uploading or other reasons, they prefer to upload with another FTP app from the .vnu_website folder. That's ok, as I believe that's part of the intention. I think my concern was using that as a source to add files into the VSD project. You're probably safer adding the files from the folder you have on the Desktop. Keep in mind, though, that VSD will be expecting those files to stay where they are, so if you move that folder on your desktop, VSD will not know where the files went.
You could open the hawaii.html file (in Notepad even) and copy the code, and paste it into an HTML Box using VSD's HTML Tool (like the instructions from your post describes). That would eliminate the need to upload the hawaii.html file and would allow you to customize that page better. Let's do a quick review:
1) In VSD, Add a Page (you can title it Hawaii).
2) Choose the HTML Tool on the left menu and make a box
3) Copy & Paste code from hawaii.html file generated by FLV Producer
4) Update links in menu to point to this new Hawaii page created in VSD.
Hopefully that makes some sense and applies to the situation.
If the swf is added to VSD (Settings -> Add Files) and doesn't load properly, it may be because the path in the hawaii.html doesn't match up with where VSD uploaded the files. You can try either updating the path to the swf in the HTML Tool box (in the Hawaii page in VSD) or move the swf file to the proper location with another FTP program.
