McAfee firewall blocking Direct FTP -...
Direct FTP (ver. 6.9) times out on me, however if I turn off the McAfee firewall Direct FTP works as it should connects in a second. I contacted McAfee tech support they connected to my laptop via remote and could not get the problem fixed. They told me I have to get the IP Address of the program (Direct FTP) from CoffeeCup and call back and they will fix the problem. Maybe I am ignorant here, but I can’t understand how or why Direct FTD has IP address. Can someone please help me out here?

Direct FTP doesn't have an IP address. Your local computer or the server you are connecting to has an IP.
This is a good example of why I refuse to use those security programs. They cause more problems then they claim to prevent.

Scott,
Thank you for helping me regain my sanity. I knew Direct FTP didn't have an IP address. The McAfee tech support person insisted it did so I just had to ask.

Hey Phil, same thing happens with Norton and most of the other major firewall/anti-virus programs. Easy fix. To my Norton I simply added an exemption that allows CoffeeCup products. You can do the same with your McAfee. Simply have a read through this and see if it helps ...

Thank you Gunsmoke and Scott,
I added the server IP address to “My Networks Connections” in the McAfee firewall and all works now as it should.
Thanks again,
Phil
