I cheat!

(Honestly, I completely misunderstood that you were looking for a 1 click solution. Wow, been in the sun too long! )

What I do is open the file I want to modify...then hit 'Edit/Select All...then hit Edit/Copy
Then click the icon on top of the editor window for 'New Document'
Name the document in the pop-up. Select to Save Remote.
Delete the default text
Go To Edit/Paste
Save it.

Bit of a hassle, but it works! Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Hello, Gunsmoke. Yes I upgraded to the latest v6, which is smooth as silk compared to v5. Been using DFTP since v3, that's why I noticed the issue ( that was not an issue with v3-v5) A lot of times I use a template file and then just "Save As" to different names as necessary. Something else I noticed is it is only gives save option as "Current" or "Original", and even saving as "Current" the next time it still remembers the original "Original" unless closed and then re-downloaded from "Current"
Older versions were not like this, and I don't see it as an improvement. If CC is trying to "Dumb it down" they should have an "Experts" mode...
I think your work around is a lot better then my way, which is saving the file and then changing the name in the file browser and then re-opening, if I'm not careful I overwrite the wrong file, so I need to name and save the original file to a name not in use anywhere.

10/4 Gunsmoke. Problem is they made it worse (IMAO), not good for business either!
Trimmed down your work around with windows shortcut keys even maybe a bit less of a hassle:
CTRL A
CTRL C
New Doc
CTRL A
CTRL V
unfortunately no response to CTRL N (New File)
