Hi
Cab someone please explain what the string
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="us-ascii"?> actually does.
It is automatically added by CC when you run the XHTML conversion tool.
Yet when I look at other XHTML pages eg CSS Garden ZEN which is also XHTML strict I see no such string. Also my HeadFirst book on XHTML does not use it.
Also when I try to validate with it W3C complains that I have a mismatch in my char set between what the XLM declares and what I am using in the meta. If I remove this ?xlm string provided by CC my code validates as XHTML strict !!
So what is this string for - it just seems to screw things up.
Thanks Vincej

Here's some info:

It shouldn't be used if you want IE to render the page correctly.

Thanks Cary you are a master ! Curious though why CC should automatically add it. CC could do with adding a wizard around the whole creation of the Doc type.
