For several months now, I have been having a problem with the HTML Editor. As I am using it, it occasionally "stalls". What happens is that my cursor changes from the normal pointer to a moving blue circle. When this happens, the HTML editor is useless. I just have to wait. It lasts for anywhere from 5-15 seconds. It happens pretty regularly, about every 5-7 minutes.

I tried deleting the software, restarting my PC and then reinstalling the software. The issue remained. I then upgraded to the $19 newest version (even though I shouldn't have to in order to address this issue). I deleted the old software again, restarted my PC, installed the new software, and the issue is still there.

I then posted this as a new ticket in the CoffeeCup support room, and Bret had me try the following:

- Take a screen shot of the task manager to see what system resources are being used in the moment it is stalling. (attached)

Does the periodic delay happen if you open Html Editor, close all files, and let it run with nothing loaded?

Yes it does.

How large are the files you open with the editor? How many files are open?

It happens regardless of how many files I have open, including when I have just one small file (10kb) open.

Are any of the files on an external drive or cloud drive (e.g. OneDrive)?

No, they are all stored on my local computer hard drive.

Are you running split-screen when the delay happens?

No.

-Tried deleting C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\SharedSettings.ccs in case it was corrupt. But the file wasn't there.

-Tried deleting C:\Users\timco\AppData\Roaming\CoffeeCup Software\CoffeeCup HTML Editor\Settings\coffee.ini - did not help.

-Run HTML Editor as administrator - did not help

- Backup Html Editor files that you want to keep.
- Uninstall Html Editor.
- Verify folder "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\CoffeeCup Software\CoffeeCup HTML Editor" is gone.
- Next, visit this site (http://www.ccleaner.com/), and download the free version by following the download links, then install it onto your computer.
- Run the application, and select the Registry tool on the left, then scan for issues. Next, click on "find selected issues" and do not back up the changes to the registry.
- Then click on the option to fix all selected issues.
- Go into the add or remove programs folder and verify that Html Editor is not there.
- re-install Html Editor.

The normal control panel > programs > uninstall function did not work, I got an error that "install.log" could not be found. So I deleted all the HTML Editor files manually, then ran the CCleaner registry tool three times before it cleared all the associated issues.

Still no help.

So now I am here. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to resolve this issue, other than reformatting my hard drive and starting over from scratch?

If a full antivirus scan don't sort the matter, it might be worth running the Windows System File Checker (SFC) and, if that reports problems, Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM).
