I do spend a fair amount of my time on the CC HTML Editor, and for some unknown reason, it died. 

Nothing changed on my computer other than I installed the latest RSD 3.5 update. Now Windows tell me that my Editor is "Not Responding" and nothing happens, not even my work gets done.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled both the Editor and RSD but that did not solve the problem. Next I tried the normally efficient CC Support team but I got response but no help there.

As life does not wait for me, I have tried alternatives. The 2 that seems OK this far are Bluefish and Aptana. Both have features that I like, but also features that I do not like.

Are there any other Editors that any of you use and can recommend?

I have no recommendations (I've been using HTML Editor since the end of 2004, and some years ago I saw there was some update for the programme I used before that. I installed it out of curiosity to see what it had become, and the next thing I knew was that I had all the bells and whistles of three not asked for stealthware apps that had come in through some loopholes. Took me some time to get rid of them). The only recommendation would be: Be careful with freebies.

But there is no particular reason why the Editor should die because of SD3.5. I've had all the versions of CC's responsive apps installed and the Editor is still alive and well. Have you done all the routine stuff, like virus scanning, clearing of temp files, running Ccleaner including fixing registry errors plus plus plus... ? Have you tried to reset your system to an earlier date? What Windows version are you running anyway? When you uninstalled the Editor, did you also reboot the system? Install as Admin? I may have forgotten some useful hints... Anyway, I wouldn't just give up.

My first HTML Editor was dated 2007 and I lived through all the updates and upgrades up to the latest 'paid' version. Like you, I have also installed just about every product that CC introduced and have most still installed on my system. (Win 10)

Yes, I have done the virus search, and everything else that normally get me working again. Only this time I had no luck.

The reason I am looking for alternatives is simply that I have a load of work to do for which I also employ an editor, and there was no help from support. Me, and my clients, are too impatient to wait for the world , and life, to go by.

The following might be worth a try.

The fact of the sudden and recent death makes me wonder whether it may result from a combination of the Windows 10 April update and particular antivirus software, as mentioned here. Avira Antivirus has updated to sort the problem, but I don't know about the other antivirus companies.

If none of the affected antivirus software is in use, and if it hasn't already been tried, I would be inclined to -
1. download The HTML Editor 16.1 again from the 'Your Purchases' section;
2. uninstall the present installation of The HTML Editor;
3. install (accepting all defaults, including the default folder for installation) using the newly downloaded installation file.

My reasoning is that it seems just possible that a corrupted installation file may have been used on the repeated reinstallations.

I'm +1 on this! I have all of this software and it did not kill my html editor upon loading SD3.5 (or any other version). Something has gone wrong on your system. A clean re-install should help.

To be safe I would still disable all anti-virus, malware detectors and driver up-daters and the like during install.
