Server Configuration in HTML Editor...
I use XAMPP - Apache installed on a local drive for a testing server. I work on the files locally, in a htdocs\project directory, and want to set up the HTML Editor to "upload" files to \xampp\htdocs\project. When I try to set the server up, I'm asked for a required account name and password. I don't have accounts and passwords set up on the XAMPP server so I can't set up the server. The browser accesses the files as http://localhost/project/.
I could, of course, simply copy the files from the development site via a file manager but really would prefer to transfer them directly. And I don't want to edit the files directly on the testing server.
Is there any way to set up the configure the server in the HTML Editor without having a username and password?
Thanks,
Jim

In XAMPP:
user name: root
password: (none)leave blank

Okay, first, I'd better say that I am using HTML Editor 2008, Build 225.
I've "set up" the server with user root, no password, and 127.0.0.1 (localhost) as the server address. I have the remote directories set to "htdocs", the directory xampp uses for websites.
When I click on "Test Settings" I get a message block saying "Invalid Server Information. Before testing please enter a Username, Password, and Web Server Address for your site as specified by your hosting provider."
I decided to ignore the error message and saved the server and project information as described. Clicking on the "Upload to server --> root" gives the error "List index out of bounds (0)" and an OK button. Clicking on OK gives a progress box labelled "Uploading Files to Server" saying it's "Connecting" and two bars labelled "lbProgress" and "Total Transfer Progress". Nothing at all happens.
Clicking the "Cancel" button brings me back to the project screen.
Any additional thoughts?
Thanks,
Jim

Under htdocs you must also create the subdirectory for your website.
E.G. c:/xamp/www/htdocs/mysite/
Then your local site will become :
http://localhost/mysite

Jim,
I have been playing around with a similar set up using XAMPP.
I can't find a way to do it thru the HTML editor either, sorry.
I can however set up CC Direct FTP program and get it to work.
( not the free FTP that comes with the editor tho.)

Thanks, Mike. I'll do it through an external FTP program.
Incidentally, do you have Filezilla running as a service in your XAMPP installation?

Jim
I ran it with Filezilla turned on & off and no luck.
I don't normally run Filezilla as I have no need for an FTP server on my local system.

Was there a solution to this? Did anyone get this to work using XAMPP on local host?

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
