What to Install - Confused Newbie...
I am really, really new at this. But I have to learn it or I'm not going to be able to do what I need to do. So I'm throwing myself on your mercy.
I have to download and re-install my CC software thanks to a recent computer crash, the problem is there are 20 different programs, all of which do different things. I have access to them. Is there a link or something that describes each of the programs and why and/or when I want to use them? I can find specific solutions to specific questions, but nothing that just describes the software.
My most urgent need is to get a bunch of broken links fixed on my site. So should I download VSD or HTML Editor 2008? Or both? I was using HTML Editor 2007 and the menu builder when I first put the site up, www.annelousiebannon.com. I don't mind starting over - it's a pretty simple site right now and I need to make changes anyway. And do I need the FTP client, since I use the Firefox FireFTP and that seems to work better? Anything else I need, since one of my key issues is drop down menus

Anne B.,
You may want to click on profile and change your forum name to something other than your email address. That will help keep spammers from getting your valid email address.
If all you want to do is fix the links, use the HTML editor. VSD cannot be used to change an existing site, since it does not have an import feature. You can use any FTP program you prefer, including the FTP feature built in to the HTML Editor 2008.
You posted the same message twice, so one had been deleted.

Bill -
Thanks for the quick reply. I did try changing my profile, but there's a glitch on the page and I can't submit all the required info and so it won't accept the change. (Not your fault, but a pain, nonetheless).
As for my page, the links are only the most urgent need. I got plenty else to do. So if I understand you, I should D/L the HTML Editor 2008, fix the links (assuming I can), then re-do the site with VSD later and replace the whole mess.
If I decide to just start from scratch, do I need *both* VSD and HTML Editor?
And so, for later, is there a link or something that describe each of the different programs so I can decide what I need/want?
TIA,
Anne B.

P.S. The reason the question got posted multiple times is that we're having a thunderstorm at the moment and my connection got wiggy.
Sorry.

Sorry.

Anne B.,
Sure, use the HTML Editor to make the fixes, or if Direct FTP is one of the programs to which you have access, it has a built-in editor. Either program could be used to fix the broken links.
If you prefer to use VSD, then recreate the entire site using VSD, and just stay with VSD. Many folks produce some wonderful sites using VSD.
You can find the programs listed at http://www.coffeecup.com/software/ with a brief followed by a link to the remainder of the description.
