??? A few things I couldn't find in the help files...

1. It seems like it was possible to type passwords, etc. directly into the previous version of LB. Is there someway to do this in the new LB? (I don't have any .csv files or databases; and I know nothing about creating databases :().

2. I had a password for the previous version of LB, but I don't see an option to create a password for the new LB. Am I missing it, or is it possible for anyone to open it just by clicking the desktop icon?

1. I am not sure I understand that one. That is the primary function of the software. Just add a Group or Account and enter the details. Importing is used for bulk adding or migrating from other programs.

2. After you open your database, go to the Tools Menu > Change Login Information. There is no way to open the database without knowing the username/password.

If you have the previous version, you will have a database which can be used with this version, you just have to locate it. File probably called pw.pwk.

Then read the manual of where files should now be located and put the original file there.

I'm thinking this program is beyond me at this time.:P
I tried doing the 'add group', but I don't have a group of anything to add, just wanted to see what would happen. Now I'm even more confused. :P There was a place to create a password, but it seems to be for that particular group? So if one has 5 groups, would one would have 5 different passwords? – rather than one master password for the LB?

All the options under Accounts are greyed out, so I haven't been able to see how that works. :/

2. After you open your database,.....

I don't have a database :(
Keith, a Windows 8 install wiped out all my programs, along with the old LB. I didn't know it was going to do that, anyway... everything's gone. I have no database to start with. My only "database" is hand-written in a notebook.

I just wanted to be able to type it all into the LB, but it seems it has to be typed into a database somewhere else first, then it can be added in as a Group?
Guess it's time to consult Mr. Google and see what it's going to take to build a database.

paintbrush,

I have the new (and old) LockBox program, but have never used it (them) so, to put it mildly, i'm no expert on this :D
Your posts made me curious, though, so I started it up to try it out.
The first thing to do, I think, is go to: File > Create New Data Base
Follow the prompts to name the data base and define a user name and a password.
Voila! This takes you to a data base page where you can start adding groups, adding accounts, etc...
No need for Googling info about external data bases and such...!

This is as far as I got today and now I'm going to bed (East Africa time zone...)
Let us know how it works out for you so I can find out when I wake up :)

Do not Google - it is far simpler, I can write some instructions, LB creates the database.

In fact what Per says is spot on, takes about 30 secs.

If you are stuck let me know and I will write something. I`m on UK time.

You are not creating a database like MySQL. That is the term we use for what all your account information is stored in. That database file we encrypt so that your data is safe. Your database has a username and password to open it. Once you open it, that is it, you are in the software. Just add the information you want to store.

A group is just a way to categorize your accounts. This way you can make groups for Banking, Shops, Email or what ever. Then in that group you add your account. You do not have to use groups, but it is a way to really organize your data.

Clear as mud now? :)

Thank you, Per! That's what I needed, a first step.
Keith, Thanks for the offer! I'm going to have another look, if I need help, I'll be back :P
Scott, The mud is starting to flow  Thanks!

Now I have to come up with a password I can remember. Not so easy... I completely forgot my PW for the old LB.
