Sorry, this might sound thick, but I don't really care as I have stuff I need to do, and one of them is learning this tool. I'm totally new to web development. I was a product developer in the 90's [C/C++/Java/ect..] for over ten years. I know HTML, and I've started learning CSS, and I've never in my life seen or heard the term "Hero Unit" until I bought RLM. I've gone through this thread, and I'm still no closer to discovering what a "Hero Unit" is, and what it's used for.
Is it a design element? An active element like a button that's part of a design? Why is it a hero? What's so heroic about it?
Is it because it jumps ind and save your arse in some way by being flexible? By highlighting something?
Would it be possible to get an answer in the form "A hero unit is..." or ."A unit becomes hero when x is used as y"
At the moment I basically get how the layout maker works [except for this], and please tell me if I'm wrong because it's why I'm here].
You visually create a layout based on a grid [Like 960gs grid but more flexible] with columns and rows which is dynamic in nature in that it will rearrange itself when it gets to a certain size so it can be used on devices like tablets and phones. You place elements in those rows, creating containers to house groups of elements. When you've created the wire frame you output a style sheet that you include in your HTML, and use the Classes, Ids, and Types in your code to define the layout of your page as an when needed by elements of the page.
Please correct me if I have anything wrong here.
So my question is "What is and how and when do I use a "Hero Unit"?
Also is there a manual, or a source information? Everything I've seen seems to be marketing material, is there anything that actually gives you the basics of using this tool?
Thanks
Barry
