Oh this one is a mess. I wonder if anyone else has run into this: I have been setting up a second shop in S Drive. This shop is for local customers only and totally unrelated to my first shop. I have no plans to do any SEO as this is a shopping cart for local sales only and will be 100% dependent on local advertising of the url.

I believe that I have it all set up correctly, as the url is coming up in searches when typed into the url window. I also verified the site with Google hoping it would make it easier for them to recognize it when they 'see' it or someone searches for it.

But no! In checking the various ways customers might attempt to reach the site ~specifically typing the url address in the Google search box ~ I found that when I typed in the Google search box : "www.tgperennials.com" OR "tgperennials.com" I get results like this:

Lady of the Lake is my primary site on CC, but totally unrelated to the other site! Yet they list the url for Tanglewood with LOL cached copy.
Is this because the LOL site is my primary account?
Support has checked my settings and nothing is amiss. Scott believes it has to do with SEO but I am not getting the relationship there.

Any thoughts will be appreciated, as usual! Sorry to inflict this one everyone, I know, it could only be me

It is tgperennials.com ~ Google buries my listing probably hundreds of pages deep in the serps which I understand [ without extra work on the customer's part, see below ] ~ ~ unless it is typed into the actual url window.

But when the exact url is typed into the Google search box ~ which I feel is how most people search ~ you will get www.perennials.com with the Option under Showing results for...... to actually search for what you asked for : tgperennials.com.

This requires an extra click, assuming the customer even sees the Option.
Then it brings up cached copy from my other shop but shows the tgperennials.com url. If you click on the url it goes to the right page, but you would have to agree its very confusing for someone to see Lady of the Lake with a tanglewoodperennials url.

This morning, I added Page Title Text and Meta descriptions to the static pages on the tgperennials site and re published, thinking that if I did this it might fix the problem, but still no luck.

I was going to submit a site map today [ now having trouble with this too ] and give this 24 hours and see if that helps. I will query Google too, and see if I can get an answer. I am just having a bad week with tech stuff, my head is elsewhere. My season for selling is here now, and I was hoping to place a local ad for the end of the week. I did not anticipate a problem of this magnitude with a simple url.

Thanks for any suggestions..... if you get an error message with tgperennials.com its because I am still fussing with the site map .

Ok, I went to your site and I didn't see any search box so I was confused and figured I had the wrong site. Get that site map submitted then see what happens to the results. Changes won't be seen right away by Google so be patient. If you get your map submitted you'll be able to see if Google has scanned your site on your webmasters tools account.

No, you did not have the wrong site. Type in "tgperennials" in the Google search box and see what happens.... You will be amazed. I think.

I am once again having issues with the correct file path for the Site Map so that never got done today [ don't tell Scott he'll have me committed ]

I think the ultimate goal is to come up number one for the products you sell on your site. This will make your url be in first place. Don't worry about the results your seeing from Google when searching for your url because people don't search for url they search for the products they want. If they know to search for your url then they can just type it in.

Little note, CC forum has very high page ranking, every time you add a link to your site in the forum there is a chance that forum thread will appear in a google search. that in turn will possibly also bring up your other site where you have put that url into a forum thread.

Hi Rolly, with all respect, and not trying to be argumentative, but in referring back to the original post, this approach would be the opposite of what I am trying to accomplish:

1.) Being number one in any search ranking means nothing to this site, that is totally bogus for what I am doing here. I would not waste any effort trying....
2.) I really do care about how people search for my business ~ locally. They would presumably be searching for my advertised business name, not a product per say.

Google is definitely mashing up the urls. If people can not search for my website name and come up with a reliable, clear web address for my local perennial site, then I have a problem. I just want a site where local customers can order from.

I don't care about being first in a daylily search, hosta search or whatever..... I don't ship product and I never will. I am not trying to be a pill about this , but this mix up will most certainly matter for me. My customers won’t be searching ‘daylilies’, they will be searching Tanglewood Gardens or tgperennials as advertised.

I did not have any reason to believe that someone could not search for my website name, or business name accessed from local advertising or a business card ~ and not be able to find me. Isn't that the purpose of a web site to begin with??
I think we have to realize that not every web site created is meant for global sales, just my take on the subject

I guess I don't know what your complaining about because I just did a Google search with "tgperennials" and this thread comes up first and your site comes up second, third and forth. I guess you better stop posting on CoffeeCup if you ever want to be number one.

The URL itself will not be treated automatically as a 'keyword' for Google searches. If you want the url to function as a searchable keyword, you would need to include it somewhere in the page text and then draw Google's attention to it further by including it in the <meta> keywords list.

I noticed that your current <meta> 'keywords list' contains descriptive sentences rather than actual keywords:
<meta name="keywords" content="Welcome to Tanglewood Gardens! We have been growing perennials for 32 years. We sell perennials and only perennials ~ no annuals, no trees or shrubs." />

Here's what I would do: Make up a list of search words that you expect your customers may be using to find your site. Then use this keywords list in the <meta> tag instead of the descriptive sentences you have now. Make sure that any words you list as keywords actually appear somewhere in the text of the page.
You should also submit a sitemap to Google and open a Google webmaster account.
