How about a 'Continue Shopping' button. I think this will increase sales by 50%.

There was a big debate on this issue when we sent out the first beta to our user. About 50% of the users wanted it to work the way it is and the other 50% wanted it to continue shopping.
It is something we are considering making an option in the software.

One of the companies I purchase goods from (twice a month) has the continue shopping button, THANK GOODNESS !
Most of my orders to them are for at least 3 products. It would be a right royal if I had to complete 3 separate transactions.
As for my business I'd like ability to generate extra sales and 'add on' sales via a continue shopping button.

Can't you just browse back to any category and add more items to your cart?

I vote for 'let the user choose' to show or not show 'continue shopping' link.
- don't believe me... listen to Seth Godin talk about options for consumers here, and you'll probably build 10 other features into the core base product for your users: http://www.schneiderism.com/seth-godin-leadership-is-the-new-marketing/

I think website builders quite often, actually more often than not, build a web presence on the basis the those visiting it have a full understanding of how to navigate a site. This, of course, is not true.
On all the sites I've made, after learning this lesson the hard way, I have made so simple to move forward and backward, that the customers no matter how web savvy can not get lost, or more importantly lose the page they want.
Things need to spelled out in a plain unambiguous way, 'continue shopping' is just one way. Most of my clients are not Gen X or Y, they are baby boomers, many of whom get confused with too much 'tech stuff' and certainly aren't impressed by snazzy gizmos. They just want to buy.
Who do I test my sites on? .... My 78 year old luddite mother. A woman who converts a time written in the 24 hour system, say 16.00hrs, to shillings and pence, 16 pence is 1 shilling and fourpence, therefore the time is 4 o'clock.

Personally, I hate the Continue Shopping button as more often than not, it takes me back to the site's home page and not where I was last. This really ticks me off. I like to simply Add Items to my cart and sort out the "mess" before checkout. Just MHO.
Please put me down for a "YES" vote for a continue shopping button...
I would like to see a "contine shopping" button as well.
As you can see, everyone has a big difference of opinion on this issue. We will probably end up making it an option in the software. Everyone just needs to be aware that what they may like as a shop owner is not what your customers may like.
